( If you don't already have one you need to create a new compensation item for Severance Pay. Once you have that done you can create the check using an unscheduled payroll. You can also add it to his final check in the check detail preview screen. If you create two separate checks for his final check and his severance pay check his taxes may be calculated incorrectly. You don't have to purchase checks from Intuit. You can purchase them from wherever you want as long as they are compatible with QuickBooks. Just make sure you have your check printing preferences setup for the type of check you are using such as Voucher, Standard, or Wallet. You can set this preference by going to Edit>Printer Setup. Choose "Check/Paycheck" from the drop down ...

Are you trying to reprint old payroll checks or trying to create new ones? If you are trying to reprint old ones you wouldn't want to change the date. Changing the date changes tax liabilities and deposits, not to mention employee W-2's etc.
If you are trying to create a new payroll check go to Employees>Pay Employees and create new checks with current dates here.

First, make sure you have you file set for minutes and not decimal. To do this go to Edit>Preferences>General then click on the Company Preferences tab and select Minutes. Then when you enter 8 hours and 10 minutes you will need to use the colon and not the decimal. \(8:10\)
I hope this helps!

This is a Taxable Fringe Benefit. Create a new payroll item for this; it will be a company contribution item \(it doesn't increase the pay, it calculates taxes based on the value\). In Payroll Setup you will find this is one of the options, QB knows the default taxable settings for this. You can read about this in Payroll Setup or just search the Help system for Fringe Benefits. ...

Thank you for using the Intuit Community forum.
It appears your preferences are set to recall the earnings from the prior payroll. If you go to Edit and then Preferences , highlight Payroll and Employees , then click on the Company Preferences tab, there is an option to Copy Earnings Details from Previous Paycheck. Uncheck that option.

It depends on the date on the paychecks.
If the paychecks are dated Dec 1, 2009 and you send the information today \(Nov 25\) then the money will be debited from the Company account on Nov. 30 \(Monday\), and the money will will available to the Employees on Dec 1 \(Tuesday\).

There are various state and federal regulations defining what is salaried and what is not. You have to have a minimum pay, above $455 per week. The person is not held accountable to a timeclock, nor are they paid overtime. A lot depends on the state you are in, or the employee in question. Check out your state workforce or the Federal DOL, and the guidelines are pretty self ...

You need a payroll item that is an Addition to increase the paycheck, Tips In, and is fully taxable, and you need a Deduction item that has no tax tracking \(is after taxes are computed\) for Tips Out, to reduce the takehome amount. You use both items on the paycheck details. You can read about Tips in the help system and also in Payroll Setup.
