( Also, if you have a one-state client where the state needs a different filing date than the Federal, but somehow Lacerte wouldn't have known it \(and often, Lacerte DOES know it, so you have nothing to worry about\), you can always use the "state due date if different" override field in Screen 4.1. I should clarify that it takes over 30 seconds to load on 1 employee's computer. It takes a minute and thirty seconds to load from mine. \(I think we both have 2.4G dual core pentiums with 2gb ram that're less than 6 months old, so hardware shouldn't be an issue\).

There is a way you can get separate state vs Federal letters. That way, you can just use the Federal letter, and let the State letter become scrap paper or something. In fact, if you don't have a whole lot of fiscal year clients, and you want to make separate state letters for only the few fiscal ones, here's what I'd do: Take your default letter which I suspect is letter 1 \(...

I can think of an awkward way to do that, but I don't know if there's a serious, official, way to do it in the one file you now have. My awkward way \(assuming you have a client file SMITH, with 3 different groups, which might be called Rentals, Schedule C, and Home Office, as an example\): Copy SMITH as SM-Rent, copy it again as SM-SchC, and copy it once more as SM-HmOfc. There are a bunch of automatic relief provisions. Your guy should qualify under one of them, given the facts presented.
You should have no problem getting S status as of 1/1/08 under 2003-43. It's not clear to me why he'd want to have been a C for the remainder of 2007, and then an S starting in 2008, though. And the "I wanted to be an S-corp starting in 2008" story isn't ...

By the way, folks, PA has revamped its website since I gave the previous URL for the "PA PIT Guide." The new URL is:

Who knows, maybe PA has people in its government now who figure they can stick nonresidents with extra tax as a way of "balancing the budget." It doesn't make sense to me that nonresidents can't get the depreciation deduction...

I've never used the demo data, but that might be a good place to start learning. The Lacerte Guru or someone else, might be able to point you to certain URL's where Intuit gives step-by-step "how-to" instructions on various aspects of tax prep.
