Ideally you should set up a petty cash bank account and from that write cheques to pay for these expenses, the type of expense being set by the account you use under the account column of the expense tab.
You would of course use a petty cash voucher to validate the expense and pay out against each voucher with the write cheque route, I set the cheque numbers up as "cash 1/"2/3 ...

Found a way to do this - Create a dummy JE with the number coming over from the other software package - before I import each time - Then delete the dummy JE - this enables me to designate the starting number of the JE each time to coincide with the other software package.

Under the expense category I have repairs and maintenance, and supplies and materials as two separate categories. I referenced the first one as \(1\) and the second one as \(2\). How do I tally the separate totals for each category so I know how much I paid out for each expense? I only see the record, restore, and split buttons at the common of the spreadsheet....

I started using QB in May 2008. When I OPEned my accounts some of the balances went to OPE. I still show a negative balance for that account and have read countless articles, and cannot seem to solve my problem. Three of the balances increased the account. Two of them are bank account balances, and one was the Inventory asset \(dollar amount we had in inventory\)...

I'm confused too - the only thing you should be seeing in the loan liability account is the principal reduction. The interest portion should be going to the Interest Expense account.
Maybe I'm missing something here....

Use the Receive Payments window to enter the ACH amount, just as if you had received a check. You can consider it a Cash payment.

Depends. Was this to cover expenses paid for repairs? If so, post it to the same account the repairs were paid out of. If not, post it to an Other Income account.
