Why not go 'in house'

And what? Have Joe the stock boy run it? Its hard to generalize as things are different market to market, country to country but for the sake of discussion let's assume: Basic Equipment start-up costs: cameras, lenses, lighting, misc; $15,000. Hire a studio/event/portrait photographer on staff: $38,000/year minimum Any company could buy a whale of a lot of quality stock imagery for $53,000; and that would just be for one year. And unless...

LOL! I've been playing with the trial version lately! : ) Glad it's fixed for you now. Their customer service seems very good when you do need help, at least. DL

It's certainly clever and graphically it's a nice design, but as others have said, it's just not practical. It's more of a showcase for web design for the sake of it, rather than a showcase for photography.

I was initially going to say that your main page resembled a blog, and when I clicked on the blog, it turns out to be the same page. Your photography section looks great. So, IMO, you need a cleaner main page. :-) I will chime in in a similar fashion. The way it's set up now is primarily a blog, secondarily an album. If that's what you're...

put your camera in P for professional mode and take the professional shots your friend wants. Help me in return - I have a dinner party tomorrow for 50 people, what do I need to do to cook a 5 course sit down meal? Is my microwave oven and food vouchers going to be enough? I have like 6 plates and 3 pots to use on the stove - what heat do I need to set the stove to when cooking 1 minute ...

For prints smaller than 24x36 I always use the traditional tape hinge approach. This allows for the print to expand/contract within the frame depending on ambient humidity. A slight waving or 'wrinkleing' under glass is considered not only normal but expected by such agust institutions as the Museum of Modern Art, NYC. Would I personally prefer that all my framed work lay perfectly flat under ...

Well, first off it's only a 5x7' background...so, far from ideal seeing as most subjects need to be shot a few feet from the background in order to not have fringing... That said... Wescott generally produces some very good quality products and I would have no problem spending $69 on their green screen kit. I say go for it. If nothing else else it will help you to learn what to look for and ...

Lots of ways but if there is any editing I normally do that first, then work with the jpg result and run an action that upsizes in 10% increments. If you enlarge using a tiffs, you may need a room size hard drive.

Why would companies buying commercial photography not just setup an 'in house' studio' to save a substantial amount of money? Or does it not save that much?

Give backs to your community and causes that are special to you are always good for the soul. I think it's an important aspect of being a photographer. Gilda's Club is one organization that has my support, as does the Humane Society.

I have both. I use my 20" imac as my desktop and in studio computer. I just love the quality of the images on the screen. Recently I had to replace my laptop but I was not able to afford a mac book pro so I bought a $500 compaq laptop and I am happy with it. It has 2 gig memory and a 250 gig HD. I carry it around in my camera bag and can work on the fly with it. This system works for me. Just...

Oh I just wanted to add . . . Currently I am simply looking for an little extra income, I would be thrilled with $10-$20K a year in profit, I realize that will not happen immediately. I have a vast array of contacts in the music business on a local and regional level from a former business I owned. I have a good network in place to get me started, but marketing is an early thing I will need ...

Quoted from Luminous Landscape: "First, add the cost of all the materials used to create your photograph: the cost of the print (paper + inks or chemicals), the cost of the mat board and the mounting tape if the photograph is matted, the cost of the plastic bag if the photograph is presented in a crystal clear bag, the cost of the frame plus glass and back if it is framed, the cost of the ...

I book about 90% of my meets. However, I'm meeting less and less. Brides today are busier than ever. After an inital contact, I give them a URL for even more information on the web. Ninety percent of the time, they come back wanting to book without a further meeting. Great with me! We have a thorough phone consultation and I stay in close contact over the months leading up to their wedding. ...

welcome to the slippery slope of calibration. A) your friends/work computer is not calibrated to the same profiles as yours. B) sounds like it is still in Adobe rgb, which doesnt render in almost any web browser correctyl. All photos going to the web or non calibrated computers need to be in srgb... My .02, I shoot in srgb, edit in srgb and send to the lab (which only accepts srgb) in srgb ...
