If you need the camera predominantly for lower light and don't want to use flash then the Fuji would probably be a slightly better bet or maybe an LX3. Otherwise the ZS1 will be good as anything and better than most. Just remember that better lowlight performance in a P&S is only marginal, a stop at best. The only way to beat this is get a Fuji F30/31 but this would be secondhand as they are discontinued (unfortunately). All...

With Panasomnic I like the ability to fine tune the colour that the then automatic PROGRAM setting produces. Anything to give as much control of the out of camera result to me, as opposed to the Lab Tech's back in Japan. I have my own taste and appreciate being able to apply it. An extension of that is the ability, at any moment, to override the camera completely and take over the photography. I treat this seriously and have studied...

One of the challenges with architectural photography is parallax. This is the visual effect that makes the tops of buildings look skinnier than the bases, for example. Parallax is caused by the camera sensor not remaining parallel to the face of the building being photographed. And almost all digital cameras have their sensor fixed in relation to their lense mount. So, almost all digital ...

the Lx3 tens to use a slow shutter speed with the flash such as 1/30 sec, which can lead to movement, so set it to at least 1/250

Depends on the lens. Some like my Carl Zeiss have a very recessed first element. Generally though the hood can't hurt and more often than not helps.

After following the reviews, I bought the LX3 from B&H about this time last year. Everyone was saying on just wait until after Christmas or in the spring and the price would come down. I think I paid $419--for the black one I wanted--I am so glad I didn't wait.

Nicely done, I've always enjoyed b&w photography, your first and last photos are my favorites. I'm a firm believer in taking a color photo and converting it in post processing, I must have a few photoshop plugins and actions and Lightroom actions for b&w conversions. You did a good job with yours. JD

I would buy finger extensions so it fits better if I was getting shots like those. Splendid stuff.

Camera shake in video cannot be corrected with any software. You have to find a way to steady your camera while shooting.

I've tried both, owned not by me but a family member. The most notable thing was that the difference in weight, although not great, was sort of a boundary thing, with the ZR1 very easy to carry around all the time, and the ZS3 much more noticeable in the pocket. So if you really don't need the extra zoom, the ZR1 is far preferable for a take-anywhere camera. Other posts suggest that both ...

Sorry Ken, I haven't the foggyest. You might try using another photo program thus avoiding the problem altogether. Jack
