By all means upgrade to SP3 and apply every available Windows update; it is extremely stable, fixes many bugs and provides the greatest level of security/protection as far as the OS is concerned. SP3+all updates is about as mature and stable as XP is going to get. Regards, Mike

It appears that the modem that the Win7 Advisor doesn't like is inside your computer (add-in card). The modem is used to connect to an ISP via a dial-up connection. Since you already have a wireless router, I assume that you have a broadband internet connection (either DSL or Cable). If you do connect to the internet via DSL or Cable, you have no need for the internal modem. You have two options for moving to Win7. You can either remove...

Frank - Just gone back to "square 1" and re-read your first post .. it brought back to mind all you had said ...especially that this is in a new laptop. As in my case.and I'm sure it could apply to you..NEW computers , when you get them first , are almost invariably setup in a variety of defaults. and I just wondered if you'd checked all those things. Is the machine for instance setup in 'System' I think it is ,...

Short answer: no Think of the .NET as a programming environment. Programs may still be written in .NET 1x and you need the framework for .NET 1x to run it. :)

Be careful of using "file sync" software for making backups. If you accidentally delete a file from your main disk and then sync it to another disk, the copy will be deleted from the other disk as well. That's not normally the kind of behaviour you want for disk backups.

Help! Calibration of Dell 2209WA...
Published (2009-11-22 23:39:00)
Bob Collette was kind enough to help me today. He emailed me his profile for his Dell 2209 WA. I installed it and it was pretty much perfect looking on my monitor. He installed my profile on his monitor and had the same problem I had. Also, my profiles were like 600-700k his was 7k. I will borrow a different unit from another friend and calibrate my monitor. Hopefully it will work out better then. For now, I am up and running. No more...

My current PC is about 3 years old and I am looking to upgrade. I have really not kept up with what's new in the PC world, I only know what I do in the photography world. So I am looking for a PC recommendation. I have about $1500 to spend. Here's what I do - I shoot a Canon 5DMKII, shooting weddings etc, and processing large numbers of files. I shoot raw and convert with Capture One. ...

I had a similar problem on my networked Windows 7 computers. I finally fixed the problem by selecting the settings below in the "network and sharing center" (accessed through control panel) and then clicking on the "advanced sharing settings". http://img40.imageshack.us/img40/4233/networkshari ng.jpg

I did what you just did. From old CRT (dimmed out...) to Dell 2009WA. I self-"calibrated" it using rules of thumb gathered from this forum, and two pieces of free software: - set your WA to brightness 10-15 and contrast 70-80, and color R - G - B to "custom" values of 96 - 97 - 100 (that is the setting I am most unsure of - color temp., to do this properly you'd need a hardware device, but it's...

add another 50 bucks and get a Dell 2209WA, one of the best monitors available today, it has an ips panel that delivers outstanding color rendition. Almost all big box store monitors use the TN technology for their panels and this causes all sorts of problems with color. Cheers, Jim

Being honest the best I have found is MS Digital Image suite 2006...library.. Though if you need raw you may not be satisfied..for others its far and away the easiest to use..ratings, metadata, sort by camera...date take etc etc., backup.... Some use faststone..which is free..and sees RAW files...I tried it..had some issues with missing exif...etc maybe fixed now. --

Idiot mode was ahhh mediocre. No color cast as before, but the monitor seems a bit bright, and skin tones more red/bright than when pp'd on my old LaCie CRT. So I put Contrast and Brightess back to 75 (default) and ran Idiot Mode again, keeping fingers crossed. HELP!

This is exactly why I'm waiting a while to go from Vista-64 to Win7-64 on an SSD. It just looks like all the software bits aren't in place yet. My guess is it's harder for the device manufacturers to get their drivers working with Win7 and Trim than was originally thought. Does this surprise anyone?

It's hard to say which would be faster, a pair of 7200RPM drives in RAID 0, or a Velociraptor. One drawback to the RAID 0 configuration is that you have doubled your chances for a catastrophic loss of data. If either of the HD's dies, the entire array is down. If you decide to go with a RAID 0 array, you need to ensure that you do frequent backups. Of course you should backup regardless of ...

I'm not familiar with the dell monitor specifically, but I have i1 Match and an i1 Pro. Some monitors don't like having their RGB gains above 50. I have 2 Samsungs that are this way. Try reducing the RGB gains down to 50-50-50. Then try matching the i1 match RGB balance keeping one of the 3 at 50. for example, if Match shows low Blue and Blue=50, reduce Red and Green by equal amounts instead. ...
