Where does the D70 & D700 fit?
Published (2008-11-29 00:06:18)
Hi - I'm new to Nikon so please forgive what is undoubtedly a daft question to all of you. Reading here and reading reviews I get the distict impression that there was (is) a developement progression which was (is) D40; D60; D80; D90 but all discussion seems to ignore mention of D70 and D700 (and the D50 developed from the D70). Should it be D60; (D50); D70; D80; D90; D700; D800 ??? And if so, why does the D70 get left out all the time...

I hear that5 the ML-3 remote control is attached to the hotshoe of the D300 etc to power it but then you can't use a proper flash like SB800, is there an adaptor to allow the use of flash and remote?

P6000 - Color me curious
Published (2008-11-27 16:19:28)
Thanks for the reply. The D90 just got me back to Nikon after about 10 years with Canon. I have the G7, and added the Franiec grips and black trim ring for better handling and greater stealth. As you say, it is a bit heavy, but a nice camera, and I don't shoot in RAW with the P&S cameras. I took the trouble to make borderless 8.5" x 11" prints from the ISO 400 studio shots of the DPReview reveiew of the G10, P6000, and LX3,...

Yeah, the battery charger not being included is pretty cheesy. Esp. given the $450 price of the camera. Charging the battery through the camera is a big drag. I am lucky though as still have my P5100 and just use that charger. I must say that the Canon chargers are usually better designed as many of them are self contained units that plug into the wall without any cords.

hey young man, personally i'd keep the FM2, it's a classic. and you never know when the bomb will drop and all things electronic will stop working... also, with a dSLR, you will be learning (from your mistakes...) A LOT quicker and even though you are still young, there never is enough time. also, it's not even a matter of money, you can pick up a good second hand beast like the D70s/D50 or even newer D40 for about £150 GBP or...

Ben, I think you are right. The older Nikon 300mm f/4 IF-ED has drop in filters and looks very close to the image of the lens that Gibbs is holding in the NCIS TV show. I have read that on CSI shows that they often use older lenses and older cameras for some of the TV shows. I would assume they use what looks good and is within their production budget, not always the latest and greatest. Thanks. Cheers, Bill Creech Ben Nakagawa wrote: >...

I modified a Palm Vx hotsync cradle and swaped the Tx and Rx cables. I didn't use a serial cable to the camera (I modified the included USB cable), but used the instructions at the site discussed above to ensure these cables were swapped. Works great now -- very much worth the effort. cs106 wrote: > > I'm using the hotsync cable which is used for connect the Plam III > to PC for hot ...

Those are really nice photos. Thanks for sharing. I am in need of a small digicam and have been going round and round on the usual suspects lately. The Canon Talk forum is in a tizzy over the G10 "only" getting a Recommended rating here on DPR. Since the G10 is compared to the LX-3 and P6000, I was wondering what the P6000 owner's take on this was? Shots I've seen posted here from the P6000 look good, and I took the trouble to print the ISO 400 studio shots from the review of the P6000, LX-3 and G10 at a borderless 8.5" x 11" size, and ...

I would say that FM2 is an excellent instrument to learn how to do all things that today are highly automated; BUT remember that with digital you have not to pay for films, processing etc.; and on the other hand memory cards are so cheap, giving you much more choice to face with a smooth learning path. - Anfy slythic wrote: > Hi all, > > For the last year or so I've been on ...

Images were shot at ISO 64, AWB, RAW, Aperture Priority between 7:30 AM and 10 AM - a strong mist was in the process of breaking up. Also, the indoor shots were taken at ISO 64, camera in manual mode (1/125 sec and f4.6) and the SB-400 flash on TTL bounce mode. Please do note that some images may appear to have a haze or fogginess in them - 'cause that was the early morning mist burning away ...
