Flushing a 40mb raw will take 10s, but that's what buffer ram is for. Since processing (and hopefully storage) speed seems to be doubling every year or two, figure 5 years at least, and probably 10 years max, until the hardware exists to process 430mp at 3fps....

DxOMark stopped 50D's ISO at 3200 in their tests. They show already some big losses at that point, in particular in color. Why do you think DxO did that? And it seems that Canon have been using weaker color filters for a long time, all their sensors seem to show weaker color results than Nikon/Sony's similar sensors. Check the color sensitivity graphs for both 50D, 450D and D90. Or for D3 x 5D x 1DsIII. Westfall said that the new...

You see a lot of shots in movies where the male lead and female lead meet at a party and wander outside onto a balcony overlooking the city where they exchange some dialogue. Except to really shoot on a balcony would mean dealing with wind and noise, so it's almost always a green screen shot with...

First, gold isn't evenly distributed. There are countries that can still pull gold out of the ground, others that can't. Just as some think we have wars today over oil, we'd have wars tomorrow over gold. Given that the...

Good analyses. Mostly spot on and we will see if these come to pass or not. Even if they don't, the analyses is good. Predicting is difficult because there are other variables at play. There are other forces at play. One is how the new US President will play out his economic policies. That could spur or dampen things. But until he takes office Jan 20, 2009, and really implements them (w/c ...

I remember selling shoes in a shopping mall for minimum wage to pay for a very meager Christmas. I still remember the burning humiliation I felt when I encountered well off, former classmates at that mall. But now? ...
