Think a 4MB card will be more than sufficient then. The question is whether go with the Sandisk or Sandisk Ultra II? BigMike1 wrote: > snapshot09 wrote: > > 2. Any recommended memory card size? S90 vs SD940
Published (2009-11-25 23:46:00)
The sd940 is Canon's tiny pocket camera. I had the sd780, it's predecessor, and I was going to say it didn't take the best photos based on that - *but* I just looked it up and it appears the sd940's photo quality is better than the 780's. Hmm. The s90's pretty consistently correctly exposes the people in the picture at the expensive of blowing out the brighter parts of the picture. In the example you mentioned, I...

Travel tripod-lightweight for S 90

I would like a light, but sturdy travel tripod for my s90 for sunrise/sunset shots. Thanks in advance for any feedback. Light and sturdy is nice but with the S90 on it, make sure there's a hook underneath to hang a bag, purse, or something, to...

Is G11, S90 shallow DOF possible?
Published (2009-11-26 09:14:00)
That's because I'm an absolute beginner in terms of replicating DOF. I never claimed being a pro did I? I've never even owned a DSLR. The plugin is only limited by your imagination / DOF know-how. As I said, it's just to give a rough idea. BigMike1 wrote: > The photo above does NOT look natural. Sorry to disappoint you.

G11 for macro with ringflash?
Published (2009-11-26 22:48:00)
Just to add: I'm suprised you don't want to use a DSLR for macro is you have the gear already - the extra depth of field is fun on the compacts but an angle finder is probably near as good as a swivel screen. And manual focusing is very hard on the G11 - much easier to do with a DSLR and macro lens. Some of the least worse of my photos: http://www.flickr.com/photos/susans/

Yes Canon does and they do it very well. We have owned 6 Canon P&S cameras and all have had firmware upgades. This is the site for Canon software and firmware downloads for the S90. Do you own a Canon P&S you are concerned about?

G11: RAW, what is it good for?

bill hansen wrote: > When I shot JPEG I kept in-camera sharpening and noise reduction turned "off". The camera's JPEG engines still apply a little NR, but turning NR and sharpening off makes a big difference. You can then apply just the amount of NR and sharpening you want, to various parts of the image. Especially if you're shooting at a higher ISO (maybe 400 for a G7, 9, or 10) that selective application of NR and...

I don't have the G10 but I do have the G9. Here is an older blog article about setting up the G9 for snap shooter methods. They should also work on the G10. http://lifespy.wordpress.com/2008/02/12/setting-up -snap-shooting-mode-on-the-g9/ This gives lots of custom presets to consider for quick shooting on the street. The external viewfinder may also be helpful for you, but I have no ...

Where I mentioned "(or leading lines)" I meant to say that the lines can also be leading lines. Like a straight or curvy path leading the viewer further into the shot.

I'm sorry, but I've no idea if your current flash will work. However, in the user guide Canon list the Macro Ring Lite MR-14EX and Macro Twin Lite MT-24EX as compatible with G11. You have to buy an adaptor ring to mount them and your flash might fit too. There are some more info in the G11 user guide (p 169), you can probably find it on the net somewhere (Pdf-file).

Focus at 6'0" with 105 mm and f5.6 and you are in focus from 5'4" to 6'10" which means from 6'10" to infinity the background should be at least a little blurred. See dofmaster.com for charts.

Welcome to the crowd. There are a lot of us that don't use RAW (I have a G7, so I can't) for exactly the reasons that your photos show - you don't need it. (very nice work, by the way). I do find that there are significant differences in the way different editors work with JPEGs. What did you use? Or do you use the in-camera adjustments, or both? I do use both. I have to admit that I was ...

Forgot this one: * menu option to increase the activation hysteresis of the rear control wheel so that it is not so easily knocked. I'd like to turn it at least 1/4 of a turn before it activates anythiing.
