I know what you're getting at but then why is it that the 5D and 5DMKII have been so popular? If the AF is as bad as you paint it surely the models would not sell. Yet pros and amateurs alike have taken to these models in such vast numbers why would Canon feel inclined to change, granted they probably will in the near future. I shoot a lot of subjects that include snow and it is tricky in several ways. One, of course, is that you can't trust your automatic exposure if shots including large expanses of snow - the camera wants to move them towards ND gray.
