What if you do your edit and then give him the original AVCHD files (with timecode references) for the clips you need effects work done on? Then he can do whatever works best for him as far as acquiring the footage and working with it. If he does that and the final titles, etc, all at once, it should at least cut out a few re-encodes. Does Shake import EDLs? In a perfect world, you'd be going between Premiere and AE, or FCP and Motion,...

Uncompressed is the only codec that will stand many generations of re-encoding without adding noise- because there is no compression. Hey, Gordon thanks for your reply. My camera is HDV. The canon XHA1. I would have place this question on the Canon forum but questions are not answered there and I previously had a DVX and Noah and friends answer questions quickly. The laptop I have has Windows 7. I'll check the software you mentioned. My other question was if my laptop needed to have an HD screen? To judge focus accurately that is. Antonio antonio de la cruz

problem reading SDHC card
Published (2009-11-12 06:39:00)
The problem turned out to be the Lexar Professional dual slot card reader, even though it is new. Same problem happened with compact flash cards in the reader and when it was connected to another computer. I had thought I also had the problem with the camera and usb cable but that was my error: unfamiliarity with the camera. I didn't realize one must hold down the mode button for two seconds to switch to pc connect. I still wish the...

I shot a sports highlight video and have two different footage Mini DV DVX 100A and the V1U. I am cutting on anamorphic DVCPRO 50 SD time-line. The slo-mo stuff on the DVX and HDV is stuttering. We have used the Field shift -1 on the hdv and the field dominance is set to none. I am curious what do we do with the Mini DV 480i 30p. We did this on another project but we used HVX 200, 720 60P. Just curious if anyone has ideas of fixes... I am a...

Can't help with the west side but in Burbank you can take it to Computer Works Technology, 711 S. Victory Blvd. (818) 840-1870. They've taken good care of my DVX before. Mark

Hey Shawn, I don't have any actual experience with a cross platform workflow, but I know that it's a fairly simple process to rewrap CineForm files back and forth between .avi and .mov for going between Mac and PC. Transcoding to CineForm would be my suggestion for dealing with AVCHD anyways. The format's 10-bit 4:2:2, and essentially visually lossless, so no worries about quality loss....

What's your camera's recording format?DV Rack (or Adobe OnLocation as it's now called) needs a DV/HDV stream (via Firewire). I think newer versions might support more formats, but if you're buying 'DV Rack' it means that the software is going to be a few years old. Another thing to think about... Do you know for a fact that it'll run on your current OS? I have a copy of Ultra 2 (also from ...

That camera records in AVCHD, which Final Cut Pro should be able to import via the Log and Transfer window (here's a page from Apple with information for reference). There shouldn't be a problem unless these are pre-Intel Macs. Shooting in SD won't help since it'll probably record in the same compression either way.
