Matrox MX02
Published (2009-11-13 11:33:00)
Can I capture video from my Canon XHA1 using the Matrox MX02? Yes, absolutely. In addition to Firewire, the camera offers composite and component outputs. Your best option would be to capture from the camera's component HD outputs and run that into the MXO2. Best Andy

RED codec conversion
Published (2009-11-11 21:01:00)
No. That is a TAPELESS format. To convert RED footage to other formats, you need to use the RED Encoders. The MXO2 converts incoming SIGNALS from decks or cameras. Or if you have the MAX, it will add power to Compressor to convert to H.264. But it doesn't do RED. Shane GETTING ORGANIZED WITH FINAL CUT PRO DVD ...don't miss it. I just want the best quality picture, but also be portable. (maybe a 50ft BNC to my macpro could do it) So am I better off recording to the sxs (sony ex1) and forget about using the mxo2? or am I getting a better picture using the mx02 and recording using "maxtor apple pro res 4:2:2 (lt)" am I keeping the 4:2:2 color space? Like I said I do chromakeying all day long. WTF!!! 1080p aint supported? what should I do? I just switched...

no MX02 in Sound Preferences?
Published (2009-11-06 00:43:00)
hey andy- well, its all getting more technical than i care to pursue, just want to get back to work. My old blackmagic card showed up in my Sound Preferences and I assume most other video i/os do as well. I keep thinking there must be some cost-related reason Matrox didn't include this functionality in the MX02, but then again there are scores of very inexpensive FW interfaces that do show up there and don't bug out SoundtrackPro......

I am following up with a very helpful tech on my issue. I have to say I appreciate the diligence and Matrox is doing a hell of a job making me feel like a VIP. All this, the rave reviews and the promise of what this card can do make me not want to give up on this. Doing all I can with Matrox's help to get this working for me!

This Videoguys' FAQ has been completely updated in November 2009 to answer all of the new questions our techs hear from customers like you. Introducing: Matrox Convert DVI
Published (2009-11-11 03:07:00)
Hello, I realise I am chiming in late, but I'd like to clarify what the ConvertDVI is. The physical form of the ConvertDVI is the same as the MXO, but the featureset, FPGA firmware, programming, etc.. atre not the same. For starters the ConvertDVI is configured via PC not MAC. Once configured, it can operate as a stand alone appliance that need not be connect to a computer. Once programmed as a satnd alone appliance it can get it's...

Hi Mike,
Maybe no faster than what you are currently doing, but you could drop the native clips into Premiere and use Export > Movie to create Matrox avi clips, then use the new clips to edit realtime.
This is made easier in CS4, using the Adobe Media Encoder. You can set up a Watch Folder, with parameters set to render to Matrox codec. Then drop your AVCHD clips into the Watch Folder...

Hello,
You seem to be having some issues with your card, but let me reassure you that the product does deliver.
Allow me to elaborate on your specific concerns;
-No direct control for altering specified data rates
** The data rates are completely configurable. You can dial them up to 20Mbps.
-bound by presets
** Although Matrox does provide presets, all can be modified or...

we have been told they are very close. Hopefully a week or two at most. Hang in there. The technology will be worth the wait.
(This goes for MXO2 Mini w/ MAX driver as well)

That would probably be the quickest/easiest solution James. In future you might also want to look at making a backup of your Compressor prefs (indeed, for all of your ProApps) ... Jon Chappell's excellent and free Preference Manager app is well worth checking out. Under the app's Advanced tab you can set it to backup/restore not just Compressor's Preferences but also it's Settings and ...

Hi Barry
I just got my MX02LE today
You lucky dog!
1) How am I supposed to record 10bit Uncompressed 4:2:2 on a macbook pro?
Sorry to say Barry, but you're not. As you note yourself, you'd need faster storage than your laptop can handle with just FW800. If you need to work in Uncompressed HD then you need to work using a tower as host, not a laptop. For the MBP I'd ...
