more matte confusion
Published (2009-12-01 15:44:00)
Hi Matt, Mattes are effects. They are rendered before the "Motion Effects" (Scale, Rotation, Crop,..). If you transform a clip with a Matte, you transform the Matte too. If you want that the Matte do not change, you must Nest the clip with the animation first, and drop the filter on the nested clip. Perhaps instead of a Matte you would be better working with a Luma Travel Matte. Rafael www.nagavideo.com

Disenaging the track pad?
Published (2009-11-30 01:05:00)
Found the solution....I was running OS 10.5.8. I took it over to Mac Business Solutions in Gaithersburg, MD and had it upgraded to Snow Leopard and the my mac finally displayed "disnengage the track pad when mouse is present" in Systems Preferences-Universal Access. Thanks.

FCP print to video problems
Published (2009-11-24 20:42:00)
That sounds plausible. Unfortunately it wasn't our camera. We only borrowed it for the shoot and had the capture the footage quickly. I have a feeling we might have messed up the settings when first capturing the footage. But we managed to sort something out. Instead of using the print to video option we recorded directly from the timeline. Not sure how exactly the other half has done this but we now have a master copy. Thank you so much...

Ryan,
Of course, if you're working with uncompressed HD, 2K, or 4K files, a MacBook Pro is not going to swing it for you, but for the compressed HD formats MacBook Pros work very well. However, the problem with MacBook Pro and the new iMacs as well is not about their power, it's that they have issues with expandability and connectivity. Neither have the ability to add cards that will allow ...

Hi Micheal
You'll find the undo function will only go back a certain amount of levels which is dependant on how many levels you've set it to within the user preferences.
It's set to 20 or 10 (I can't recall of the top of my head) by default. So unless you've changed this it's unlikey you'll be able to go back far enough to correct your unwanted changes.
I'd recommend going ...

Sounds like they were set up as stereo pairs Steven. In future you can pair/unpair them by pressing Option L (or Modify menu > Stereo Pair)
Also, you'll want to note the Clip Settings panel in the Log and Transfer window where you can link/unlink stereo pair settings prior to import ... which might save you a heap of time down the line
Hope it helps

Hi Dannica,
That sound to that your FW connexion doesn't works.
Make sure that your FW cable and the socket works properly.
You can test this with iMovie (if you have it), or with QT Player: " Video recorder".
If you don't get the picture in your Mac with one of this two methods, your FW doesn't works.
Cheers,
rafael

[David Naugle] "So the consensus here is create a master file and drop THAT into compressor right? okay, do I need to export out a " self-contained" proRes 422 that will also be 25 gigs (will take 5 hours)? Or can I export using a codec and size that's a little more manageable than the 25 gigs to drop into compressor?"
The codec you export with won't change much the rendering time (except ...

Hi Robert,
MPGStreamclip makes MP4 with H264 embed.
Set it:
- 100% quality.
- Don't check "Limit data rate" (unless you have to do it).
- Multipass & B-Frame
- Frame 1929x1080 (HDTV 1080i)
- Field dominace Upper First. Do not uncheck the "Interlaced Scaling.
Set AAC audio. You can rise the data rate over the default 256 Kbps.
Cheers,
rafael

Sure should work.
Just connecting the HDMI the video card should recognize the new monitor. If not: Detect Display (in the displays preferences).

Brad,
If you just come from AVID, instead of blaming Compressor, document your self about your new Tools.
I don't gonna tell you about may experience with Squeeze and Cleaner, but your commentary makes me laugh (sorry)
if you want to re-install only Compressor, go to main/library/receipts.
Look for the last Compressor receipt and delete it. Try to install again.
I don't know if you are...

This is a guess. Select the bin, then Export Batch List. Import that into Excel then sum the duration column. You may have to find a routine that adds time properly if that's not already an option in Excel.

John,
You are looking at interlaced footage on a computer monitor that can't properly display interlaced fields like a proper TV or broadcast monitor. The fields you see on your computer monitor, one is even numbered scan lines, the other odd numbered scan lines, are combined on a TV create a single frame, which has no visible scan lines. On your computer monitor you see the individual ...
