Which preset to use?

Since your source footage isn't a supported BD frame size/frame rate combination, you have to change one or the other, as you already know. Given a choice, I would personally keep the frame rate the same and change the frame size. The HD to SD (720x480) method may produce acceptable results for you, and since that is the SD DVD frame size, you would get a finished product at a lower cost per disc and with increased audience compatibility...

You can set it to go back to any chapter, and you can place a chapter at just about any time, however you still can't avoid the fact that the player has to reposition the laser. Now, if your video is short, and the laser doesn't have to move far, then the freeze will be minimal. Jon Geddes www.precomposed.com

Technical difficulties aside. Jeff your tutorial focuses on transcoding mp4 to SD. For me that would be mp4 to HD, correct? Or mp4 to SD and then SD to HD. Any packeage video settings that might help mp4 to HD: 2 VBR passes?, M frames and N frames settings. Thanks TONY T

forced transcoding
Published (2009-11-20 15:54:00)
Today, just a couple days after Adobe Encore (PC) CS3 forced a transcode of a Compressor .m2v file, Encore did not force a transcode of another Compressor .m2v file with the identical settings as the first one. Any clue as to why Encore sometimes, but not always, will force a transcode? Bob C

Definitely make sure the files you are using in Encore are DVD-Video compliant. If not, Encore will tell you that the material needs to be transcoded in the project media window. Set the Transcoding method to that which will best fit your material on the DVD, or try the 'Automatic' setting. How long is the material in minutes or hours? 2.5 hours is the most I'd even attempt at putting on a single side, single layer DVD-R to...

Why would you "convert to exporting size" later? You should be authoring content that fits on standard sized discs, either single layer, or dual layer. Either reduce the content on the disc, reduce the bitrate at which it was encoded (based on how large your image is, I don't think this will even help), or split it up over multiple discs. Those are your solutions. Jon Geddes www....

Does it play properly on a standard DVD player? My aspect ratio test is to play the DVD on a computer NOT in full screen mode. If the window is 4:3 and the program is the correct aspect ratio, then everything is set up properly on the disc. If the program plays stretched in a 16:9 window on your computer, then the aspect flag is not correct on the DVD. I don't know much about Blu-ray players...

No you do not. You simply have to use the very feared and misunderstood "Override" command. Actually, there are a couple ways to do this, but I will go over the easiest. Set the end action of the timeline to go back to chapter 1 of the same timeline (so it loops over and over). Then, the loop button on the menu should link to the timeline normally. The Play button will also ...

Are you trying to make an SD DVD or a Blu-ray disc? If DVD, then 720x480 is the only choice you have, because that's the DVD frame size. If it's 720x480 widescreen (1.21 PAR), then an HDTV will upscale the image to fit the full HDTV frame, and an SD TV will show the frame letterboxed. All of the above depends on the particular DVD player being set up correctly. -Jeff The ...

Your background video should be the same length as the audio. Otherwise, you are having encore create a video that is the length of the audio... might as well do it yourself properly in an editing app such as Premiere or even After Effects. Try this: Select the entire subtitle track and change the font kerning. Then Undo the change and save the project. Try building again. This workaround is supposed to fix an error where the changes to the subtitles don't show up in the burned disc, but it may help your error in this case. -Jeff The Focal Easy Guide to Adobe Encore DVD 2.0

I am sorry but after struggling with this program and the resulting insane gibberish it spits out as error codes, and its in ability to burn anything longer than 45 minutes in HD, I must say, stay away from this program!
