[Nicholas Shera] "So why are my memory settings being totally disregarded when I render at Half Resolution???" There are two common culprits: You have Open GL enabled for rendering. Turn it off. Turn it off NOW. It's useless. The footage you used is giving AE fits. Read on: Dave's Stock Answer #1 : If the footage you imported into AE is any kind of the following -- footage in an HDV acquisition codec, MPEG1, MPEG2, mp4,...

The titling looks pretty straightforward, so I'll assume you're talking about the background. I see three things going on: Some of the shapes write-on (see this Cow tutorial on growing elements ) Some shapes pop on (with simple scale/opacity keyframes) Some regions of shapes seem to wipe on (perhaps a circular, feathered iris) It's a lot of work. You have to cut the background into many layers for each of those effects. The...

Understandable ... I only referred to PNG and Animation as examples of codecs that support alphas ... there are tons of others so just find out which one they want and render to it ... you might even be able to download an Avid codec from their website and render in their native format ... I have a few AVID codecs in my collection, but I don't recall whether I had to buy them or they were free (either as website downloads or shared...

Is it fair to say that Apple has a more user-friendly OS (compared to Windows), but that a good PC systems integrator can get you more powerful hardware inside the box? Which might reinforce the "hard-core 3D, go PC" idea? (trying to stay flame-free here ...)

Dave = right. AE is not an editing program at all. But you don't have to have the sound synced perfectly to the animation either, unless I totally misunderstand what you're doing. You just have fast changing text, so get (or create) a fast bleeping/blipping/swishing/clicking/whatever sound and play them together. Most of the time it'll look like it's synced up without you having to do anything. - The Great Szalam (The...

Contiguous Color Key

I've sometimes filled holes from keys by playing with extreme values of matte chokers. Use a big negative choker until the hole is filled in, then a big positive choker to remove it from all the edges.

Foam is a very versatile and complex effect with a LOT of controls in it. Are you trying to use it intuitively, or did you read this:

Hi Dominique,
At the bottom of your composition panel there is a button for changing views. Right now it's probably set to Active Camera. You can change it to other preset views or customize your own.
To the right of that button, you can select your view layout to view multiple angels at the same time.
Hope this helps.

Fake the 3D by curving the lines so they arc up and back down again. Sure, it's not physically correct since you're viewing from above, but it may be what the client is imagining. Or make the ones at top of screen arc up, and ones at bottom of screen arc down. The start and end points would be the same as before.
Or ... you could use 3D stroke to draw a line that curves up toward camera and...

Don't use After Effects to do the conversion to mpeg2. It can't do two-pass or multipass encoding, which greatly improves the quality of an mpeg2 image. Instead, Render a high-quality file from AE, and use a different encoder to do the conversion.
I would double-check those settings on that encoder you used. Someplace in them there has to be place to indicate that this is a PAL-...

Check if you have enabled Open GL for rendering. If yes, turn it off. It's useless. Do it now. Check your footage. Is it HDV, by any chance? Is it an MPEG or something? How about mp4? Read on:

If the two suggestions below don't work, you may have to re-shoot. HDV cameras in general don't do well if the picture is improperly exposed.
-------------------------------------------------- ----------------------
If you've got Open GL enabled, disable it. It does more harm than good.

Sorry, but what you've done already is a pretty effective solution.
If you wanted to get fancier, you could minimize the blue in the glasses by using the mask you've already animated on a separate layer and applying AE's Spill Suppressor effect... perhaps more than one instance. Just stick it UNDER the layer containing the chroma key.
I've always been apprehensive about that ...

Most plug-ins are compatible from one version to the other, as are virtually all animation presets.
As you can probably imagine, I have several versions of After Effects installed on each of several computers, and I have not had problems with an installation of a new version messing with the installed plug-ins or animation presets for a previous version.
In most cases, you can copy ...

[Judie Luszcz] "...I'm really hoping for chart form for an easy read. Suggestions?"
Sorry, but don't hold your breath.
AE is such a flexible application that it's extremely difficult -- if not downright impossible -- to produce such a chart. It really does come down to what you're expected to deliver to the next person who will use your work.
The chart for a guy who works ...
