New Nissan Micra spied
Published (2009-11-27 15:13:00)
The new Nissan Micra has been spied testing in the UK. Spotted by autocar.co.uk reader Mark Waites, the heavily disguised car was running on the M1, heading back to Nissan's Technical Centre in Cranfield, which is undertaking much of the development work on the car. While Waites was unable to get a close up picture of the whole car, his photos clearly show the distinctly curved rear end of the car and the overall shape of it. Read the...

VW considers F1 engine supply
Published (2009-11-27 19:46:00)
-Cosworth got bought by Audi, it was at the same time Audi thought it was buying Rolls Royce. -Vickers (i think) owned Cosworth at the time it was sold, straight after, Audi split the business into two halves, Cosworth Racing (went to Ford) and Cosworth (i think) Engineering when to Audi -Audi then sold its bit on to Mahle and who owns it now I am not sure and the other part owned by Ford was sold into the CART racing in the US - i think two...

VW considers F1 engine supply
Published (2009-11-27 11:31:00)
Lee23404: R32: Given that VW Group engineers created the W16 engine for the Veyron and the W12 engine for the Phaeton (now also found in the Bentley Continental series), who would bet against their engineers pulling an epic F1 engine out of the bag too? Doesn't VW still own Cosworth Engineering, or did they sell it on? Can't remember but you're right they do have the engineering expertise one way or another. you're right....

Eastern European car sales collapse

@ Kairoo. Fair enough, we are now aware of what in your opinion wrong with the UK and US economies. Can you tell us, what in your opinion, should be done to rectify the problem now it exists? Also could you do it in a positive manner rather than knocking everbody and everything?

the current micra is not a world car, probably as it was ugly, the next one might have a chance.

Yes Lee23404, but unfortunately you've still got the matter of a good car to put it in, and then finding top drivers, and even with their resources and a recession going on, 2012 seems a bit optomistic, don't you?

Volt tests noise emitting device
Published (2009-11-27 15:53:00)
Lee23404: I'm glad it's driver activated because it would be very annoying to hear that beeping noise in the middle of the night if your Volt driving neighbours were arriving home. Someone mentioned somewhere it might be easier to just have a cane for the blind that vibrates a bit when an electric car is nearby, similar to feedback computer joysticks. It could also be used to thump parents to stupid to keep their children out of the...

Scrappage 'prolonging...
Published (2009-11-27 19:28:00)
So then. Another perfectly good and interesting thread ruined by those that can't restrain themselves when Kairoo posts. What's the matter with you? He wasn't attacking you but that didn't stop you (Robot Boogie and DavidMR) attacking him. You obviously don't understand that not everyone is in here to achieve the level of false bonhomie with complete strangers that you are looking for. Grow up! What is even more...

- you look at the way Ford ever so delicately disposed of Aston, making sure it had a future and the people buying it could run it, then the same with Jag making sure TATA could handle the big CAT and the same now with Volvo and how that is being handled. - then you have BMW and Rover - spot the difference - -Ford did a superb job, BMW on the other hand, well the difference speaks for itself ...

the new nissan micra is a very important world car, and should be taken seriously, as a bench mark model.

How annoying is it going to be, living in a world of electric cars all driving around, chirping away?. It's bad enough having to listen to reversing sensors on all manner of commercial vehicles (and yes, I'm sure they have saved many an accident and saved lives but they are still annoyng). Surely the simplest answer is to go to the makers of the Grand Turismo games and use their expertise to ...

Autocar: Scrappage has come under attack after it emerged that imports of cars surged in the third quarter of this year, worsening the UK's trade deficit and contributing to the recession. According to the Guardian newspaper, statisticians have singled out rising car imports as the major contributor to a sharp increase in the trade deficit, to £7.2bn, from £6.5bn in the second quarter of...

Finally, a car manufacturer talking sense about F1! Let's hope they keep that focus and don't get blinded by ambition to buy their own team and repeat the same mistakes of Honda, Toyota, BMW, Jaguar, Spyker, Alfa Romeo, Renault (although at least they won back-to-back championships) et al.

Stuff the mechanical/engine upgrades, it doesn't need them. However, the design is awesome, it looks like a monster, pure aggression and not too OTT. Picture number 6 is pure evil and the stuff of nightmares!

- its like what happened to Rover, BM ran off and i wonder if BM have left the team in the manner that Honda (who did a very honourable thing) did with Brawn; looking at Rover as the example i doubt it. -i am so glad Sauber has bought it back (from the DIRTY Olympic CAR FLEET BMW) and wish him and the team all the success for the future -go on Sauber and i hope you get a grid slot for the 2010...

Looks good to me. Perhaps not as bold as the previous generation, but it works. Definately a lot better than the X1 and 5 series GT.

And you think that the others won't follow suit in one way or another?, come on, after reading an independant report states that 90% of garages don't follow up brochure requests and often potential customers have to phone the showrooms or visit, and when they do visit they aren't particularily in a hurry to talk too them, no wonder there are price increases!, plus most garages seem to think that ...

It looks like an inflated E46 ( facelift version). Admitedly, the current 5-series is an incredibly tough act to follow, as it hardly dated at all since its launch.

delingpole is a well known denier of empirical scientific data, a well known climate-change denier, a well known interviewer and touter of scientifically discredited climate change deniers, and a well known second world war conspiracy theorist - to name just a few pointers where he's somewhat adrift of the accepted scientific mainstream. nothing wrong with that. each to their own, after all. ...

Autocar: From 1 December, an average price rise of 2.7 per cent will be applied cross Ford’s range. The company says the continued weakness of the pound against the euro has forced the latest rise. Now Ford no longer make whole cars here they obviously don't feel any affinity with their UK customers. I think we can blame both Ford's cynical view of the UK market as a "cash cow" over many ...

I am still strugling to understand how they have managed to fit the BMW 2.0 diesel engine into a MINI, and why they didn't just borrow the PSA 2.0 diesel instead which is designed for FWD cars like the MINI. Note to AutoCar - Its not the a special"120d engine", its the same unit found in the 116d, 118d, 120d, 316d, 318d, 320d and 520d. Just stick to calling it the BMW 2.0 diesel.

Zoe is Greek for life. the only ones who should at least have the slightest right to complaint are therefore the Greeks and I don't see any of them much bothered about it. why make such a fuss about a car's name?! the Elise never had such problems....
