Tom, glad this has helped you. It’s certainly helped clarify my own thinking, for better or worse. I’m actually having a free consult call this afternoon with one of the coaches to see if personal coaching is the right move for me, already forwarded her this thread and suggested that if she read it prior to our call it would give insights into where I'm at in the process. Will come back and post if I get new insights. I realize my...

Changing to paper - Suggestions???

I am still new-ish (several half-starts). This time I'm trying paper. I'm trying no to let the system usurp my time. I'm trying to keep it as simple as possible, adding as the need arrises. I started with a steno book and tabs this time, similar to how you described, but I found that I didn't like not being able to look at things next to each other and not being able to re-order things. I've gone to a regular three...

Changing to paper - Suggestions???
Published (2009-12-07 02:02:00)
Time after time I've found that unless it's just for notes then notebooks for actions far too restrictive. I have a clipboard with individual sheets of paper clipped to it. Ie one sheet for na's and I write na in the bottom left of the paper and then rip off the bottom of the sheet next to it to make an index tab. That way my notes and actions are seperate without hassle.

I use the same contact data from my Chaos database, however, Legal Billing can be used as a stand alone product as well....

You could consider to realize one only GTD system, shared with your sub. In this case, you could set some common rules to create, modify and eliminate files. For example: your sub could update you when he create a new file, with an e-mail or updating a shared word file. In this case, you would eliminate data redundancy. Other way could be to use a special inbox when your sub could put the files ...

If you're expecting Joe to bill 2000 hours per year, you're asking for trouble. That's 40 hours a week, 50 weeks a year, which means you're allowing *no* time for his non-billable overhead time. It's no wonder he's not meeting service goals: you're forcing him to choose between non-billable tasks like client development and little luxuries like food and sleep. (Yes, I know this level of ...

I tried tons of stuff to solve that problem, here's waht works for me: 1. I schedule projects. I always have a Most Important Project, each working day begins with working for a solid block of time on that project. 2. I dedicate blocks of time to contexts. For instance on many saturday mornings I am working solely on home improvement tasks. 3. On my endlessly long @computer list ...

Trying to maintain left/middle/right order (and color coding for that matter), can be maddening. I grab whatever is top of stack and whatever color is available. David says the best practice for filing is being able to make a file in under 60 seconds...and it better be fun. Kelly

I prefer my own hybrid approach , but here are the two best hacks I've found for going all paper and keeping it portable: Moleskine "mind.Depositor" My Amish PDA If you go for a larger day-planner, something like the basic Moleskines , Circa Notebooks , or even the GTD At-A-Glance products might be an option for you. Everyone has their own preferences, but that should give...

I would think it would help. But also, there are some things that you know you will do, but you don't need to spend time working on it now or reviewing it every week. I've got a set of on-hold projects that is about the same size as my active projects. I don't review it as often. I also use it as a 'waiting' area for projects that are not finished, but I'm not actively working on.
