District 9 deserves to win. Why? Economy. They accomplished all of that without breaking the bank. Also, the prawns look so convincing, I heard a friend wonder if they might be a practical effect. Seamless, non-ostentatious use of visual effects to enhance the film, instead of being entirely the focus of it. Sadly, Avatar will win here because a bajillion computer people are working on it, and there's REALISTIC TEETH!

I still feel that Moore is in...on name alone Moore is in...she is a very respected actress back to form in a crowded yet open category...it may be a small performance but it is enough to get a 'welcome back, hope we can give you one of these soon' type nominations...

If what people are saying is true, then I don't know why Harvey would campaign for Julianne? Seems like a waste of an investment...why not focus on the Nine ladies, scoring a double nomination there? Cruz and Dench seems more plausible than a Moore nomination, given what people have said about her. The "overdue" factor could work, but if it's for such a small role and she's going to lose to Mo'Nique...

I think if Tarantino gets in, Basterds will be nominated for Picture.
It won't happen, but I'd guess Haneke would come closest.
If there were only five Best Picture nominees this year, I'd say Bigelow would be the likeliest "Lone Director" nominee.
