Quote johnlong: hope the OP won't be too mad if i hijack the thread a little bit further. i have a room in the attic and most of my corners are filled with some furniture, but, anyhow, i notice the highest LF build-up in the one that is empty. the ceiling in that corner is actually very low (it meets the wall at maybe 1 meter in height), so the panel height can only be that high. i know the absorption level rises with the length of the...

Jay - your duvet trick will deal with reflections and sharpen up the stereo image a little, but you'll have to look a little further than the typical waterfall plot of RoomEqWizard. Try looking at its Impulse Response plot to spot the individual reflections. Those rogue modes will be little affected by a hanging duvet, so don't assume that the remaining ones are in front of it! most cost effective = DIY built. best value in uk for ready made (based on IMHO, an estimate of the optimal performance vs price vs appearance parameters) = RPG. http://www.rpg-europe.co.uk/proaudio.html also worthy of note... www.realtraps.com , effective, but the shipping is a bit of a bugger.... the new Primacoustic range appears to be worth a look technically... but i've no idea about supply or price... while rpg's parent...

You may find it easy to understand a bass trap as an energy converter. The sound waves vibrate the fibre in the Rockwool which then converts the sound energy into heat energy, thus "absorbing" the sound energy. There's not much heat involved though as there's not much energy in sound.

From all the posts I read here before I made mine recently, 60Kg/m3 density at least. In the UK that's either Rockwool RW3, or Knauf RS60. Thickness depends on your design - if "slab across the corners" then 100mm, if chunks then I guess you could make them from any thickness since you can layer them up. Have a search around the forum, there is tons of good information here.. also the sticky useful links .. good luck! cheers A...

Hi guys, My monitors at the moment are positioned on my studio desk and raised by some old encyclopedias and some foam. I really need some mini speaker stands to give the monitors are more solid base and to help with the bass definition. I've seen mini pods, or raisers but they are too short. I'm after some sturdy speaker stands that have a height of 20cm. Found some which were ...

I've tried this ever since I got a reflection filter two and a half years ago... It dries up the sound and gives a certain definition. I thought of mounting it on the back of a chair. Not much fun though. Good for the odd listen.

I've just got some speaker stands, aluminium, triangle leg that is hollow which can be filled with sand - should this be any particular type of sand - dry i presume? AND i heard it was important to put the speakers on auralex mopads which sit on top of the speaker stands. Are there any cost effective substitutes for this? Many thanks for any help and suggestions

I've started to record more full bands, and its brought my focus to how dull my live room sounds. Previously I've done mostly overdubs of vocals and guitars which has sounded fine, or live recordings on location, but now I'm doing more live drums and loud distorted guitars I'm finding it hard to get a sound that I like. The live room is the perfect example of a nightmare, 4m long by 3m...

I have heard that rolling up duvets and pillows and stuffing them in the corner of your room can act as good sufficent bass traps? Any thoughts or suggestions? I also grabbed some loft insulation from the loft and stuffed that inside a pillow case and put that in the corner of my room to act as a bass trap - is that safe and will it work? Many thanks for any help and advice. Tom...

Calibrating what? It's clearly an impulse response showing level against time (although level as a percentage, strangely), but without knowing whether you're calibrating a room, a microphone, a loudspeaker or whatever and without knowing what the different coloured lines are it's hard to tell.

My desk arrived and I am pleased with it. However, I am having to make more mosifications than I 1st thought. I just found this stuff, which looks really good value (studio stuff). How would a cube-like shape (say 4 * slabs of 1200*100*600 rockwool) in each corner work as a bass trap? Seems a lot simpler than making that toblerone/superchunk shape? Thanks! (building it tomorrow unless anyone says otherwise)

I've been meaning to build some of these for a while. I was thinking the same idea as my absorbers. Timber frame and rockwool panels inside covered in material. I thought I could maybe get away with 30mm Rockwool panels and perhaps could get very dense wool compared to the absorbers as I'm not looking to absorb the sound as such, more block it off. I'm well aware this won't ...

Quote *gregster*: Hi all. I've bought a big canvas poster from Ikea (see here) which is 200cm wide and 140cm high. It's mounted on an aluminium frame which is about 3-4 cm deep, and I plan to put it on the wall behind my speakers (i.e. the one I'm facing when I work) If I add a layer of #703 rockwool behind this, will it serve to improve the bass response at all in the room? ...
