Has anyone here had any experiance with cMP2. http://cplay.sourceforge.net/pmwiki.php I've seen it mentioned in the past and I know it's supposed to be an open standard audiophile digital playback solution, but that's really as much as I wanted to pay attention to it. I've been forwarded a request to look into building a server solution for it and the specifications i'm reading are making my head spin for all the...

It will help enormously if you tell us your budget? I'm currently running the cheapest core 2 quad and it does most stuff but if you wanna get low latency in big projects you'll need something faster, i also dont recommend overclocking. You mentioned quiet. Hows this case.. http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-191-CM A passive gfx card might also keep noise levels down. As for Vital components will need your...

Quote betaguy: You mentioned an old RME Hammerfall and a new PC in the same sentence:) I have the RME Digi9652 Hammerfall and was told it wouldn't work on a 64 bit system. I want to upgrade my system but the RME is one of the bottlenecks. I was wondering what your system specs are that you use the RME with? Mine is a Core2Quad system - full specs are in the sticky thread at the top of the page. I have an old Hammerfall 9636 which...

Quote Pete Kaine: Indeed. She may clock on through when a shiney new monitor pop's up next to the old one It's happened before when I bought a new reverb unit - although it did take her a good couple of weeks... Maybe I could hide the 19" behind the 22", only bringing it out when she's gone shopping?

Quote danbroad: Cubase AI4 is only available bundled with selected Yamaha hardware. It runs on a soft-elicenser and is the equivalent of Cubase LE. You probably owned either steinberg or Yamaha hardware at the time to allow you to make the download. I've owned it twice - firstly with the Motif, secondly with the KX controller. Nope, last version I owned ( and still do ) was/is VST, in 1997/8 After SX came out I switched to Logic - and...

You could try Audacity . But I'd highly recommend trialling Reaper 3 . Its absolutely fantastic and that's before you even consider it's price!

So many sales, so little dosh. I'm starting to think that some of the big
software houses are trying to walk a fine line between selling more gear when the price is
right and avoiding the notion that cheap software is inherently shoddy. It'd have to be a
tricky one. Either that or they are just after the stocking filler market. Coz
everyone's nana is all over software discounts....

as a matter of fact Agharta, thats exactly how i run the midi into reaper,
using my TASCAM US-144. midi out of the keyboard > midi in on the TASCAM
> USB into my computer. im very very far from a midi person, but, it works
perfectly for me in this way. but, truth be told, im not doing anything that different
from tracking analogue signals. as per, im using the midi as a real-time ...

Your "chipset" is hardware found on your motherboard, changing this will require a new
motherboard. The BIOS (Built In Operating System) is a small bit of software on
the motherboard. Chances are, they'll both be fine. You need to
concern yourself with making sure your drivers are compatible with Windows 7, this
includes chipset, sound, graphics.

An 1156 socket based i7 machine will come in a few hundread closer from most builders and
give you pretty much the same performance as a entry level i7. It's worth
looking around at those offers at the moment if an true 1366 i7 is just out of reach for
you.

If you have an MS Windows installation disk, you should definitely be able to boot your PC
with it...have you looked inside your bios to make sure that the CD drive is selected as
the first boot device?
Plan B might be to copy files from the disk onto your
HDD and try the installation that way (may or may not work).
Plan C is google
"install Win XP" and look for diskette files that...

When I first moved to C5 I had problems with loading time, since it insisted on scanning
my entire hard drive for plug-ins. This problem seems to have been cured for me with the
last update. Loading some old SX3 projects could cause spurious failures, which seemed
(perhaps predictably) linked to the number of plug-ins in use though I couldnt tie it
down to anything in particular. ...

Thanks TBTS - it's a 160GB 5200RPM job, so not great. However, I'm planning on swapping
out for a 500GB 7200RPM drive in the near future. I'll probably end up doing
the final mixes on my desktop PC, though: 2.4GHZ quad core, 8GB RAM, 4x500GB drives.

Start by upgrading your RAM to 2, 3 or 4gb and if you upgrade to 3 or 4 use the /3gb
switch (windows xp).
