The photo below shows the rusty tensioner after removal of the ECT sensor. mikeh removed his tensioner with a 1 1/16 inch wrench. The only wrench I have that large is an adjustable and there isn't room nor would I use it if there were. I decided to use a deep well socket but in order to do that I also had to remove the engine temperature sending unit for the instrument panel next to the ECT sensor. The photo below shows the sending unit...

You know you are old school when you use a cassette adaptor to play an i pod through a stock head unit through Boston speakers. Last edited by robertoa1a; 11-27-2009 at 06:30 AM .

I would put plugs and wires first. it's relatively cheap. but I would use m.s.d. wires and good quality plugs. you can ck out the prices at summitracing.com.

The doors on our 2nd generation Explorers have all sorts of issues whether it be weak springs or bad latch designs. Your best bet is to use the forum's search tool to locate some threads in the archives that will address your problems. I've had similar issues in the past and currently my door handle is limp and an actuator needs work. I did fix a similar issue that you're having with a zip tie. ...

Bumper help!!!
I recently rolled my 1999 Explorer and severly totaled it with 4 others in the car with me and it kept us safe by taking a bad lashing, (I had my rear end lock up coming around a corner at 60mph during homecoming night) Anyway i'm looking at a 1998 Explorer that has front end damage. It needs a bumper, fender, hood and...

It's true- a lot of shops won't do alignments on bad parts, because if it isn't aligned right people bring it back complaining and want it redone, and they'll not be able to get it done right...

Be sure you stuff shop towels into the openings to prevent anything from falling in...
I was debating on tackling this job myself, then opted for a mechanic to come out & do it at my house... I specifically told him to block all openings.. long story short, he dropped a bolt in the motor.
Rebuild should be done by Monday... $2,200.

I would try turning your ex off and then restarting and trying again. If that doesnt work tap the shift motor a couple of times with a hammer. If it then decides to shift you will then know you shift motor is bad or atleast on its last leg.

I would also guess that this is a transfer case issue.
However, in the unlikely event that it is your front diff and you have 3.55 gears (axle code 45 on the sticker inside the driver's door) then I just so happen to have a spare front end. It's actually still in my X right now, but selling it would motivate me to swap in my 4.10s, lol.

I keep getting notices from Ford telling me I need to get this done for my old Sport. I wish I still had the owner's contact information so I could inform him of the re-call. My Mounty has the jumper'd inline fuse.
