Yeah, Just one more example of someone who's not a mechanic per se, thinking they have got what it takes and flubbing the result. The transmission threads are rife with cases where the problems are either caused by or exacerbated by inept attempts at repair. All the more reason why ExplorerForum becomes such a valuable resource. Heck! I wouldn't know how dumb I was without having come here to learn and to understand the damage I have...

I'm in total agreement with all of the above. E-Bay parts are cheap. I don't recommend them. I've purchased a couple E-Bay parts in the past, when I needed a part and couldn't afford a decent one at the time. For stuff that's easy enough to change, I'd rather have a cheap part that works now, than a high quality part that's broken (I also know that I'll have to replace the cheap part sooner. The last...

KOEO 89 and 86 indicate a fault in the 3-4 shift solenoid circuit and TCC solenoid circuits. That three wire connector is for those two circuits. The fuse blowing is probably due to a short in those circuits inside the transmission (probably a wire that got pinched or worn through). So, those two codes are from the circuit fault (either unplugged or the short). One thing I would note, is that neither of those circuits has anything to do with...

Assuming stock tires, you have problems. My X has 3.27s and it hauls ass pretty well even stock. Not quick off the line with those gears but it will top out the speedo easily and does great on the highway. Check for slack in your accelerator pedal. If you can lift the pedal up by hand and let it go and it drops down, refer to the "50 horsepower for 5 cents" thread. Make sure you have a clean air filter. Check that your plugs...

In addition to what has already been mentioned... here are some things to think of. The 1st gen X when new only made 160hp and 220lbs torque. Also the explorer is a 4000 lbs vehicle. With that said, keep in mind, its not going to go very fast anyway. Some other things to think of. Your gear ratio will have a big difference on how the vehicle feels, especially on acceleration. If you have 3.27" gears your going to have issues getting...

With anything that old there's going to be a lot of maintence. You really don't need a whole tool kit though... you really need:
a 10mm, 12mm, and 14mm socket
a 1 1/8" socket
couple screwdrivers
and a REALLY BIG HAMMER

This is from the Ford DSM. Pictures are attached showing removal, then installation instructions. Also a schematic of the pedal. Hope this helps. If you need instructions/diagrams for other parts of the P-brake system let me know.

Welcome to the forums!
If you're using the 4x4 on pavement or other high traction surface, some wheel hop while turning is normal (this is hard on the system FYI). Try engaging 4WD on a loose dirt or gravel surface.
Proper engagement procedure is to lock the hubs (unless you have autos) and put the case into 4Hi. Works best from a stop. Expect 4WD to engage within a very short distance...

Some early '93's (build date will be in '92) did still have only one O2 sensor with federal emissions. Every CA and all built after 1/93 that I have seen had 2 sensors.

If you have doubts now, you'll have doubts in a month. Then they'll get worse in 3 months. Then every little noise you hear, whether related to the parts or not, you'll start kicking yourself. A new car payment is $300-$400 a month. $70 extra on rings that will be used for what- 3 years at 35,000 miles per year works out to what- about $2 a month? I'd spend the money and skip a trip to Taco ...

Is your truck a 2 door or 4 door? 4 door pads might be more pletiful. I have a xl 2 door with manual windows and yes they are unusual. I bought mine back in 2001 and got the passenger side pad from the dealer but the driverside was discontinued. I took the pad off and rebuilt it using foam and some 1/4 inch plywood.
You may want to try a company called Green sales in Cincinnati Oh. ...

It's simply been at my discretion. I got mine originally from Autozone about 10 years ago, and I'm on my third set. Never a hassle, just order the new ones, pick 'em up when they arrive, bring back the old ones, get a credit on my card. I usually change them at about 50K miles. I've got about 240K on the truck now.
