Engine Temp Raising/Lowering -...
Published (2009-12-10 11:37:00)
ok here's the latest. I was on my way home from work and gunna stop off at the auto part store for a thermostat. On my way home I noticed that my temp gauge was working just fine.. WTF ?? lol. So I did not grab a thermostat then and I will keep an eye on it. I did top off my coolant levels the other day. I wonder if that could have helped out. It wasnt that much that I put in. Maybe the thermostat was stuck and toping off the levels...

Engine Temp Raising/Lowering -...

I'd get the lower rad hose inspected and get a coolant flush and fill done if it's been 40K since the last service. I flush and fill my vehicles every 40K with standard fluid. It's better piece of mind as after a while rust chunks and other crap will accumulate in the system and can potentially clog things up - like a heater core for instance. Another way to check (crude way) is to remove the rad cap (make sure engine is cold)....

89 Ranger Starts the Stalls when...
Published (2009-12-06 08:23:00)
Hey All, I have an 89 Ranger 2.3l 4-cyl and I have a slight problem. I just had my timing belt changed and a day later I started it and put it in gear and it stalled when I pressed the gas. I want to check the timing before I get into other problems but I'm not sure how. It has a peep-hole on the front of the Timing cover and when I look through I see two markings on the lower sprocket but don't see any marks on the top one is that...

Not likely related. You said switch seems good. Check it for power.

93 Ranger Brake Lights
Published (2009-12-07 10:05:00)
Brake Lights don't work, fuse ok switch seems to be ok. The door switch went bad while I was driving it, the dome light and bell came on! I disconnected the switch, now the brake lights aren't working. Think they are related? And what do I check next?

Seats for '97 Ranger.

Just wanted to know if anyone made aftermarket seats for the Ranger or if anyone knew of seats compatible with that Ranger generation. Thanks in advance.

92 Ranger Throttle Position...
Published (2009-12-12 13:57:00)
I have a 1992 Ford Ranger 6cyl. The check engine light comes on about 3 times a month for about 30 seconds and then goes off. I bought a code reader and got the code 124 which is throttle position sensor voltage to high. I used my volt meter and checked the TPS and all was good. Voltage at idle and full throttle was within specs. Being that the problem comes and goes i'm not sure what to check. All the wiring and plugs appear to be good....

sounds like you have a cylinder or 2 not firing. Why it can be a few reasons i would start by pulling plugs and inspecting them, then inspect the ignition system from wires to distributor.
i had this happen to me once with a 85 nissan and after a half an hour with my dad finally helping me in adverse weather we found the distributor cap melted through.

Does it change teperature sudenly? If it gradually gets warm and doesn't get there too fast, it could be the thermostat.

Your choice one the bullet. I prefer to save the money. With the right tools, (swivels and extensions) it's not that bad. Before starting, spray some penetrating oil and let it set. When you install new plugs, use anti-sieze. Be sure to keep the wires in the right order. You would be surprised how many do one plug at a time and "know it's right" and still mess up.
Good luck and save the $$$$$...

don't buy the little set of disconnectors unless you have to. If so, look for the plastic set. Aluminum billet is expensive. What I got that works on all ford fuel lines is a little metal disconnect tool with two sizes, one at either end, separated by a hinge. It looks kind of like a pair of scissors. They adjust slightly depending on the job. I think mine has 5/16" and 3/8" sizes on either end...

What are you looking for exactly? Just a reupholstering, lighter weight, better support? There are many things to consider when looking to replace a seat. A lot of people just shop the local salvage yards, but be careful with seats, as they might have been water damaged. If you do look on the used market, pull up the seat material off the foam padding and it should have no water marks, large ...

Odds are that there is something slowing you down, likely the brakes. While bad bearings could also do this, they would certainly cause some noise.
Possibilities:
1) rear brakes are either out of adjustment or a retaining pin has broken (common problem)
2) front caliper is stuck
to diagnose:

If you mean the spout connector, look in the wire loom on the left side of engine, it is usually taped to the harness unless it has been checked before.

Sounds like catalytic converter clog. If you've never changed them, it's probably time to replace them or bust the guts out of them before the back-pressure causes damage to the engine.

Did you replace master cyl as well? Some of these units are notorious for difficulty in bleeding the system. I was told by a mechanic friend to get into the truck, (key off, brake set) and pump clutch as fast as you can allowing the pedal to "pop" up every time. Do this as long as you can allowing it to "rest" awhile and repeat as many times as it takes. The rest time allows the air to rise up ...
