what Type of engine is this?

In your first picture, there's a decal on the bottom of the hood above the brake booster. That tells what engine it was built with. A 4.9, is a straight 6.

That is a 5.8. If your good with your hands weld a new nut to the starter bolt. If and when you get it out throw it away and get a new one.

I wanted to thank everyone that has contributed their expertise on resolving my problem. THANK YOU!!! THANK YOU!!! THANK YOU!!! I have solved this problem and discovered a new problem. The old problem was the Fuel Pressure Regulator, the diaphragm must have been ripped, and fuel was entering the vacuum line and feeding back into the intake and then running into the #8 cylinder. My new problem must have been created by the fuel hydro locking...

Front Tow Hitch

Has anyone had a tow hitch mounted to the front of their truck? I have an F250 I'd like to have a front hitch put on. Of course, the guys at UHAUL will do it, but is it safe to put 500-600 lbs on? What would they mount it to?

This is what happens, when I have the AC or the heat on, when I step on the gas (doesn't matter if it's on floor, panel, or AC) it swithces to defrost the whole time I step on the gas and once I let up it stops and goes back to what I had it set on at first. Is this normal or is somethin goin on that I should be aware of. Other than that there is nothing on that is a cause for concern, gauges are fine, runs like usual and no check...

mind of its own or vacuum leak?...
Published (2009-11-27 15:23:00)
Mine ended up being the automatic air control head unit... $850 later, I can control my air now. Not sure how they got me for $135 labor... guessing diagnosing the issue and installation. The head unit was $660 on it's own, $135 labor, $50 tax. I know I had found a thread somewhere showing a step by step on how to repair the seals in the solenoids that control the vacuum flow, but I didn't realize they were in the actual head unit....

It could be the original engine that was modified. Look at the underhood sticker and see what it says for engine size. The starter bolt looks rounded off. You could try vicegrips. Is the upper one as bad?

I was wondering, has anyone swapped a 2wd to a 4wd set up in a F-250 diesel?
How hard is it and can newer or older parts fit in. I have a master harness in the truck already.
Thanks

It definitly sounds lik a vacuum problem. If there's no leak, the check valve is bad.

20" of wheelbase from short to long bed won't make much of an issue. If anything, I' d change out the shocks for some good aftermarket units. It's hard to tell when to replace shocks in HD trucks but every 60K or so is great practice. If your tires are getting low on tread, perhaps finding a good premium LT tire might help you out. Buying a good tire can make all the difference.

What year and make. Sound like the actuators to me as well. They are a pain to replace. Not cheap either.

You might be hearing a lot of noise in jail. In most places straight pipe are not legel.
Will also severly effect the back pressure and if it has an 02 senser in the system
it might not operate properly. If your going to use a " leaf blower " don't waste your
money. K&N systems are GARBAGE. your better off using a piece of drier vent. If you take really good care of your trucks you won't put...

I have 96 7.3 and mine does the same thing. i just see it as being normal unless anyone else can prove otherwise. you have to figure theres alot of power being used between glow plugs and starter also most glow plug systems are still on for atleast a full minute even though the light goes off.

Try cleaning the IAC (ISC) valve. The PCM may be trying to set the idle with it and it isn't working. Also, if you go to Autozone, they will check the codes (if any) for free.
