Grand Canyon is something everyone should see, but I find Mesa Verde just as interesting and far more to do(although things will be limited when you are there).

NYC in Dec. for a first timer
Published (2009-11-24 12:27:00)
They're trying to make it an all year destination and I've seen ads for some that are open. I would suggest checking in advance - but if they're doing a tour probably at least some of them are. (And without a tour you can;t get in anyway.)

How to eat South Florida?
Published (2009-11-24 17:58:00)
As SoBchBud1 suggests, I've honestly never understood having them in a restaurant. They are NOT prepared in any way. Stone crab claws are pulled off the crab and cooked immediately, then chilled. If you buy them in a seafood market or even at Publix, they are EXACTLY the same as those you get at Joe's or anywhere else. They are great but very messy to eat. So why go to a fancy restaurant and pay three or four times what they cost in...

respectfully disagree with the Port Authority for toilets and food. It's okay for parking but not worth a planned eating spot You do not have to be respectful. Whoever posted it ws being sracastic.

Hawaii: B.I. Rental Car Panic

Ok, panic level @14% less. Looks like I CAN get a car, I just can't keep it until Saturday. I think I can make that work... Expensive, though. Dumb me for waiting so long to reserve.

I did enjoy the rest of the exhibits in the museum, and I believe it has the largest collection of beetles (dead, thank goodness). I must admit that when I first read about the glass flowers, my image of them was along the lines of Dale Chihuly - artistic with great lighting/display. You can imagine my disappointment! I find the whole glass flower gallery very stuffy; reminds me of those 19th-century museums with dusty and cramped displays. I...

We have been to the Hau Tree Lanai Restaurant at the Hotel New Otani a couple of times. It has a very nice "beach" setting. Check to see when sunset is and make your reservation accordingly. If the weather is nice, eat outside under than banyan tree.

Keen's Steakhouse is also "old school" but the rooms are very nice and historic.
Trattoria Dell 'Arte has several private rooms including a wine cellar. Speaking of wine cellar, 21 Club and Il Buco. And then there's the upstairs room at La Grenouille.

Saturday: the theme of the day was basically Old Hollywood
We began with a driving tour of famous Hollywood homes, including the home where Michael Jackson died. There were tour busses lining the street and there were throngs of people gathered at the front gate. Very sad. This bit of a drive was not that ...

Well, on Christmas there will still be lots of people in the ocean trying out the new surf boards and body boards and other ocean toys that Santa brought them.

Perhaps the historic Driskill Hotel downtown would be to your liking. It certainly isn't your cookie-cutter chain hotel.

we just had this same exact experience..
we had over 100k in points so we booked Marriot vacation club in Lihue with a 2bdr oceanfront but the TA reviews were so horrific and after prodding on the phone with the mgr at Marriott, we felt is wasn't worth it..accruing 100k in points is not easy and you don't want a lot of pool construction going on..plus rooms too!
so, we booked a deal on expedia...

Just a quick short reply. Since you intend to skip the really interesting part of the Statue Ellis boat trip, I would strongly suggest that you view the Statue from the Staten Island Ferry on a sunny day or at night. The crowds at the Statue/Ellis boat will be horrendous when you are here.
You'll take the R or W train downtown toward Brooklyn from your hotel -- If you are anywhere else in the...

With 6 days in New York, you do not need to be concerned with time so that you would have to use the hop on/hop off buses. That may work well for someone with only a day or 2, but it will probably be a hassle for you. The days you are in New York will be very busy and those buses will be slow and crowded. You are much better off using the subways, or walking shorter distances.
Do you have a ...

Somethings that many may do their first visit are Pearl Harbor, hike Diamond Head, snorkel Hanauma Bay and try the beaches. Kailua-Lanikai are two of the most popular and Sunset and Waimea Beaches on the Northshore along with Haliewa town.
Shopping at Ala Moana, Aloha Tower Marketplace, Ward Center or in Waikiki at the Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center.

NYC Trip Report: Day 2: Museums, mummies and a cat with flowers.
Feet sore, joints aching, this is how I awoke to my 2nd day in NYC. Told the husband I want one a pedometer for Christmas because I want to know how many steps I slog every day in my travels. Anyway I wanted to get my hair done in NYC so it would be pretty while I was thereā¦so I went to a neighborhood salon located on east 40th ...

Since you enjoy National Parks, short hikes, and a little bit of city life, I think you'd really like the Grand Canyon and Sante Fe. There's a wonderful shuttle service at the South Rim of the GC that stops along all of the scenic view points, so you can do as little or as much hiking as you want. Sante Fe is charming. Great museums and food.
