Hello, Peruvian roads are dodgy, fly to Cusco from Arequipa if you can. That's a fast trip from Cusco to La Paz et. al in Bolivia..you might give yourself more time.. Re: Chile, after Santiago, where you might do day trips to Valparaiso and the wineries, fly or take a bus to Temuco, and from there go to Pucon a few days. Then, go to Puerto Varas for a few days more before crossing to Bariloche -- that would be my recommendation. Another...

BA in early April--weather report
Published (2009-11-23 15:48:00)
I like April here a lot. Fall is just beginning and the days are generally warm and sunny and the evenings are nice and cool. Not so hot and humid as the end of summer..'' Our first April here was when we moved here and there were a lot of mosquitoes, but the weather was great. The second year there were fires in the campos and we had a lot of smoke in the air/city and no mosquitoes and not too hot .. Last year it was just nice .....

Peruvian Market? Outside BA
Published (2009-11-24 13:14:00)
My sister is currently, staying in Recoleta. She wrote the following in her last email, "L. (one of my local friends) has invited me to take the train somewhere outside of the city this Saturday to visit the Peruvian market. She is so generous with her time and always suggests interesting places to visit. But once again I am sending my regrets." I have not seen this market in any of my guide books. When, I looked it up on the web, I...

Of course there is more to Argentine cuisine than steak. There is pasta. There is pizza. There is salmon rosada. There is lamb. There is cured ham. There are cheeses and olives. There is marinated egg plant. Grilled small intestines and marvelous sausages. And empanadas...mmmmm All this and more at traditional restaurants.... I would agree that there are some exceptional fusion and trendy restaurants, though I stand by my earlier comment that...

Hi Lynn
This looks like a similar itinerary to what we did too.
We travelled with Peregrine back in 2004, on the Akademik Ioffe and then, by 2008, when we travelled on her almost identical sister ship, the Sergei Vavilov, it was through Quark. (Both are now owned by same mammoth parent company, as is the UK travel operator I once worked for many years ago).
Itinerary wise: although they ...

I'd advise against renting a car; buses and taxis will get you anywhere you want to go easier and cheaper. There are better options for luxury accommodation in Aguas Calientes than the Sanctuary, at a fraction of the price. The location isn't really a plus, since you won't need the room during the day and at night the park's closed anyway. I think the last bus down the mountain leaves before 6pm...

More likely it is the Bolivian markets in Liniers - take the train from the Once station to the Liniers stop, cross the tracks and main avenue onto J.L. Suarez, and go about a block along that and you'll find a several block strip of food markets.

Thanks for your replies but we can't do a walking trail as we're disembarking and will need to get to the airport that night. Any recommended tour guides?

I think you need to be on a tour to visit Islas Balletas, but you can arrange that separately from transportation by bus or taxi.

The wine country isn't far from Sanitago. Also look at flying south to Puerto varas in the Lake district. However, Santiago, Valparaiso and the surrounding wine country could easily fill those extra days. The Casablanca VBlley is between Santiago and Valpariaso with many wineries.

Both "Cabaña Las Lilas" and "La Cabaña" are good, but outrageously expensive. They are tourist traps, in other words.

Absolutely, it is just a short train ride from town, spend the day wandering, take a boat ride, eat at one of the restaurants along the water, back to town on the train.
Colonia Uruguay, high speed ferry there, wander, lunch, wander, shop ferry back ..it is a World Heritage site, very nice.
Go out to the Nature Preserve off Puerto Madero .. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buenos_Aires_...

The same holds in SA. How do U.S. airlines penalize you if you do not fly the return leg? Also most U.S. airlines now let you fly one way for exactly half the price. I checked out similar fares in SA and found it was cheaper to buy rtp.

It depends (don't you hate that reply!). January and February are high season in Chile and Argentina. Anywhere on the coast around Viña and Valparaíso gets totally booked. You have the usual tourists (lots of Argentines in Jan) plus the cruise ship passengers plus various festivals in summer. But if you hit the same area in March, you don't need to pre-book. You will find something. The lake ...

!0 days is not a lot of time for such a huge and varied country. We spent 3 months there and still missed loads. In terms of highlights the following stand out:
Salta and the NW region - unfortunatly you dont really have enough time to do it justice.
Peninsula Valdes - being so close to the whales, either on a boat trip or simply waling along the beach or pier was an almost spitual ...
