Suspension Question (Springs,...

What are your plans with the car? For a daily driver, occasional autocross, a set of springs and upgraded dampers would be all you need. Just be careful because the front suspension changed in 2006: http://forums.focaljet.com/suspensio...cuss-here.html You can still use the old 00-05 front pieces if you get the OMNI kit from one of our sponsors here: http://www.massivespeedsystem.com/_m.../i-252473.aspx For a more motorsports oriented car, you...

If you can get someone who's familiar with installing suspension, do it. It definitely helps, but this is by no means a hard job. You'll need a spring compressor for the front, some say you need one for the rear, but I never have needed it. There are some DIYs around here somewhere that should be able to help you along. Also please keep in mind that the three strut mount bolts up top in the front are not tightened too much when you...

^X2... good advice. Also, to compress the strut springs, get or rent the "jaws" type... the rears will need the "internal" type and a few spacers to make it work.

I'll be leaning towards daily/occational autocross for now. If motorsports comes into play then I can always sell/upgrade later. I appreciate the info. =)

I notice Tire Rack no longer carries the Brembo sport pads for the 2000-4 Focus (please correct me if wrong). However, those pads were a night-and-day difference on my '02 ZX5. Unless you're running track days and experiencing major brake fade, you won't need anything more than that. You can pay for this upgrade with the money left over from buying the SVT suspension kit.

I just picked up a set of these... how well do these work with the sportlines? I really don't want to blow a nice set of Konis.

There's the problem - Bilstein doesn't make HD's or Sports for the Focus. Do you have some part #'s so we can figure out what car these are for?

Springs are just that, new springs. They will set the height of the car and this is where you choose what rate you want. Just changing springs would require you to reuse your stock dampers which is a big no-no unless you already have upgraded ones. The stock Focus ones, especially non-SVT are not setup for any aftermarket springs.
Coilovers usually refer to dampers with an adjustable sleeve ...

The SVT suspension is a very well tuned suspension for the car, it will lower it about 3/4 on an inch... if you remove the fat stock spring isolator and put in a thinner urethane one, that will help keep the rear from showing much of the body support bracket. Your car will handle very predictably, and understeer will be noticeably reduced.

First of all, I wouldn't do just springs. You also need to swap out shocks/dampners at the same time. I run the FRPP package and I love it. It's not too low (if i take off my lip) and the ride is a lot better. If you are looking for something with variable ride height, i would suggest coilovers. Can't help you on the snow aspect though.

How about you use the springs that you have with Koni dampers? Or...Konis and SVT springs make a nice handling car/driver--especially with a little bigger (22mm or 7/8") RSB.
