Technically I don't think they have to give it to him. It's best available room at check-in. Nothing about later int he stay they have to move you if somethign beter becomes available. It would be nice, but I think it's pretty rare that they do that.

I chose the Residence Inn White Plains over the Marriott Westchester or the Renaissance property because I was there on a weekend and I knew that I would at least get breakfast. In addition, the RI is a Category 3 vs the Category 4 for the other two hotels. This RI was renovated last year and the halls and the rooms are fabulous in a modern contemporary way. Second, this property did not start out at a RI, but rather as an upscale long term...

Marriott count a stay on New Years Eve, leaving the following day (year) as a stay in the old year, so applying the same logic would mean a stay overnight on 15 Jan would be counted as 15 Jan and not the checkout date of 16 Jan...

Most of my business trips have been at a fixed daily meal per-diem rate. Granted, it's a generous rate for most cities, but if I stay at a Courtyard I feel like I have to leave the hotel to go somewhere else to find breakfast. The most parallel competition to a CY - HGI - provides breakfast. I agree with you on hotelfood in general - there are usually better options out in the neighborhood. My hotel meals are usually the first night of a...

Upgrades to suites is a part of the Starwood program for their Platinums. Of course it depends on the type of hotels you are staying at. I do believe Hyatt also provides for some suite upgrades as well.
If you are staying 250 nights a year, you can try both out and see which gives you what you prefer.

Hey, I will be there at the same time! My wife and 5 y/o son went for spring break last year. It was very mellow. We celebrated our anniversary and were treated very well. I would suggest calling the hotel or the Marriott Rewards folks and explain the occasion, what you would like and kill them with kindness. Ir worked for me!...

This is not correct.
As a Platinum, you are entitled to free access to any Concierge or Club Lounge at any Marriott or Renaissance hotel in the world.

I don't have exact dates, but Marriott usually has a break of a few weeks between each EEO period. The current one ends October 11, and the next one will probably start right before the beginning of November. The fall one will usually run through the 2nd weekend of January.

With Roll-Over Nights, if you are Silver this year, then you will roll-over those extra nights (everything above Silver), so you will start the year almost at Gold.
If you hit Gold then you start 2010 at Zero.
I would wait.

no timeshare for me, but as a platinum, closing lounges, lack of decent upgrades, I also am opting for Hyatt, then SPG then Hilton

To say that they exclude RC is only partially true. I have used points for RC awards more than once in the past. But you are correct in that Marriott doesn't allow points to be earned via stays at a RC nor do they recognize Marriott elite levels.
The most probable reason is that Marriott doesn't feel that there is enough ...

In general, elite travel does drop right around Christmas time. I travel a lot to the DC area for leisure, and they always close lounges around this time. The room rates are low. This week they have weekend rates for the whole week.

I was wondering the same thing??? I looked at the points needed for a 5-7 night carribean night stay vs booking the rate directly by ordering the $1,000 GC? I was also thinking about using it to book a cruise through the site....so many decisions.... I think if going to the islands the $1,000 might not go as far as booking w/points, ...

Yes I'd say you're going overboard about being frustrated especially if your company / client is picking up the bill. You've done your best to save them money.
So long as there isn't a big difference between the FI & HI, stay at whichever one makes your life easier, forget about the cost and do a good job!

sorry to disagree with You, but since Diner is not a benefit of being Plat I dont think the CCG is a Grinch in any sense of the word. All they need to do is provide a breakfast and not a full either
sort of like condemning a Hotel cause they wouldnt UP you to a Suite while others did.
As long as its not an Entitled Benefit I ...

Sadly, the few nights I stayed there I was crazy busy and only came back to my room to collapse on the bed. If you are going to be in the area a lot, I'd seriously recommend just staying a both properties once ...
