For me it's all about the quality and cut. More premium cuts (like NY Strip) get a bit of salt and pepper rubbed in, maybe a hint of lemon juice too but that's as far as it goes. Cheaper cuts like flank will probably get marinated or seasoned in some way.

I'll mention an addition to my beer fridge since my last post on the subject; over Thanksgiving I got a couple of bottles of Life & Limb , the collaboration between the Sierra Nevada and Dogfish Head breweries. One's going to stay in the fridge a while to see how it ages. The other bottle -- well, it's empty and in the recycle bin. It's an excellent beer but Life & Limb doesn't really fit any style...

When grilling a good steak I must side with your dad.... a good steak for me requires only a little butter, salt and pepper. Occasionally, a dash of lemon. But that's it.
If I am grilling a flank steak or a lesser cut then I don't mind marinating but when grilling a good New York or ribeye then simple it is for me.

I couldn't spot the weight on that page. I usually pay $2.50 for 12 oz of regular bacon. I'm guessing Cabelas is charging $3.33 a pound. Viable? Yes. Reasonable? I say no. Surely it's available in a local grocery or specialty store.
(I now see it's 4 pounds, so $12.50 a pound. And that's before shipping. Pretty expensive in ...

I was thinking Hwy 61 at almost any small cafe/diner along the north shore of Lake Superior for tremendous fruit pies.
Can't say I have a meat pie that stands out, I know I have not tried many of them. The Duke of Perth Scottish pub in Chicago has a good one IMO but probably doesn't hold a candle to the places you've mentioned. More info on this pub: http://chicago.metromix.com/bars-and...
