Lit up at night with Moonlight submersible leds to shine on the rocks and the airstone, unfortunately you can hardly see any of the inhabitants but give it
time and it'll be bustling.

I have an idea!
What if you got some empty water jugs....yanno, the ones for gallons of water....and the night before a water change, you filled up water from your tap in
there and put it in the fridge? So then when you do
your water change, you could use the water from the couple of gallons you had in the fridge, mixed with
your water from the tap...and then the water would be cooler!

As mentioned in the other thread, I think a small waterchange (with same temp, same pH, dechlorinated water) would be in order. Just because we are not sure
if the ammonia went quite a bit above 4 or not (and we suspect it might have). You only want to do a
small change so you can leave some nitrites for the bugs
to munch on.
Normally it is not a good idea to do a waterchange at this point...

Would they do fine with the platties? How much do I have to worry about
them getting out?

It is a bit odd that you haven't had any real nitrite readings yet have nitrates (indicating something is going on!).
Can you tell us any products that have been used in the tank (other than what was listed) including the brand of
dechlorinator.

Whoo hoo! Uyek's in the house.
So glad to see you and don't worry you are never boring!

P.S. Maybe get that
ammonia down to 4 or 5 ppm . . . just because higher levels can slow down the cycle.

I think it is totally excellent that you are planning in advance and want to do a fishless cycle.
Everyone can chip in their input and help guide you.
I like the Hagen
AquaClear Hang-on-back filters for that size of tank. They are affordable, reliable, good flow, and you can even consider the medium one
rather than the smallest just to overfilter a bit. (You can control the flow speed ...

Is there a reason you haven't gotten more
Mollies for the Molly?
I'd think eventually it might be a bit stressful, I know it can even be stressful for female Mollies!

Unfortunately, from what I understand some gouramis can be quite sensitive. It is possible that the stress of the move made them susceptible to the ich that
is
everpresent in the water. The fuzzy stuff on their heads is a bit concerning as I worry that it might be flexibacter/columnaris.
Are there any ich spots right now?

Cherry barbs are among my top favorite fish! I adore mine!
However, if yours all all brilliant red, then they're all males. The best ratio is 1 male for every 2 or 3 females. You could keep two of each sex, but
that will make it hard on the females since the males constantly
harass them. You need more females so that one female is not always being chased.
