No, of course not. Don't know what's causing it, but my sb400 doesn't
emit any smoke after about 14 months of usage. You should contact your seller.

I was thinking of getting another nikon body (only have one) for sports and events. buying a nikon body (with at least 5fps) plus a
nikkor tele f2.8 lens would mean breaking mine and my wife's bank account....good suggestions though if only they weren't so expensive

it will show you F--- because the lens contacts are not connected, the camera cannot detect any lens, secondly you get "subject is too dark" is because it's too dark @ f/22 & 1/3200, try opening the aperture by pushing the aperture lever up (G lenses do not have the aperture ring anymore to m anually open the blades) you may have to use a small piece of paper to keep the aperture ...
