I am not actually advocating in-camera NR. In-camera NR is only actually applied when shooting with JPEG or TIFF output. The High ISO NR setting in Nikon cameras when shot in RAW mode merely append a settings value into the MakerNotes section. It doesn't actually apply the NR itself. It's up to the RAW processor at that point to apply the NR. Since in RAW mode, the image processor is bypassed for RAW processing, no NR is applied to...

@Shadow Hunter - Thanks for the info. I don't own any other bodies but have access to some at work I can test. I really want to make this lens work because, in theory, it covers 90% of my needs. @igohotos - I agree on saving the $$. I took a look at your stream and I certainly do not get the sharpness you do with this lens. @Netream - I spent 2 days in Tarsus in 2001 whilel working in Cyprus. I have lusted after Turkey ever since. Shhh...

As DSP says... If you have the camera set as mass storage, windows can handle it with default drivers. If you have it set to MTP/PTP you need the drivers from Nikon which are installed when you install Nikon Transfer.

Gee ......... bad luck. That is not my experience. Works fine on D40X and also D300. It is all subjective. Why waste money on lenses when the money you save is better spent on your holiday.

One problem i have experienced with Capture NX2 regarding processing sometimes certain functions will be greyed out leaving you unable to perform a specific process. I have found for example if your Edit frame is sized to full screen you are unable to use the Eyedropper tool included with the color wheel. reduce the size of the edit frame a bit and you can acess the eyedropper tool in many cases the items in the Edit and Adjust menus are...

So for someone who processes their raw files through ACR would your advice essentially be the same? The advice would be the same, but it wasn't an option w / ACR the last time I used it. They may give you slider that you can set yourself in ACR 5.5. My copy of PS is aging severely and can't use ACR 5.5 My understanding is that in camera NR is reversible with NX2 but not so with other RAW converters - am I mistaken here? Yes,...

I think you mean that you got an EN-EL4A, right? Everyone should get the grip, especially to balance big glass. I use NiMh AA's instead of the D3 battery. Works great and is far cheaper. Be aware the the grip shutter release is very touchy. You'll get used to it though. Also, you can turn the grip release off when you are not using it so that you don't accidentally bump it....

Unless you really NEED VR, then look at the Nikon 80-200mm f/2.8D - Every bit as sharp if not more so than the 70-200mm VR but potentially more than $1000 less. LAst I checked I could get one of these new for ~ $1000 You can replace the 18-70 variabel aperture with a Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 for around $400 - $550 Those would be my suggestions.

I test drove both programs and to be honest neither one really jumped out at me and screamed "LOOK HOW AWESOME I AM!" In the end I decided I didn't wanna spend $200-$300 on software that I'm going to spend a minimal amount of time in so I went with Photoshop Elements 8 and use Adobe Camera Raw through Bridge to edit and tag all my files.

I'm guessing something is pressing against the shutter release on the battery grip. It's a sensitive little button.

Find something like a lampstand that you can move easily and set it up where you would like to pose. Put the camera on a tripod. Put it in manual focus and focus on the lampstand. M/A/P/S is up to you and may need some trial and error, but if you are concerned start with P. Move the lampstand and set the timer. Stand where the lampstand was, and make sure your eyes are in the...

Well because it annoys you personally [ though nobody else seems to be all that concerned] it should be changed immediately and subject well over a thousand members to the personal annoyance of having to go back in to their groups list and find and resave one of their favourite groups so Why Not?
