I think the value is entirely subjective... I don't doubt people would learn from it, I just question for non-professionals who sport a Flickr photostream that shows so-so work espeically when using a lighting system, if taking a one day class would be the best use of their money. I'm sure it will be 'cool' to say you spent they day with 'Zach' and that all the Strobist faithful fanboys will be impressed. I do...

I can get how $800 would be worth it. If you're pinning your livelihood on having the skills to be the best you can be, then it'll be worthwhile. Honestly, there have been more "reasonably priced" seminars roll through town, but in those you basically sit in a seat and watch someone yap. So, if you're out there shooting real situations, getting hands-on instruction with real equipment in real environments...

LOL" @croz1007 - lmao - I should have clarified - but I can get a Tamron 90mm f/2.8 1:1 macro, a Nikon 35mm f/1.8 for around $600 for both with another $200 to spare for filters and what not. You could get a Nikon 18-200mm VR or a used Nikon 80-200mm f/2.8D for that money.

I know it will sound like there's an echo in here but I'm a big fan of Zack's work and follow him on twitter. Under most circumstances I'd jump at an opportunity to work with him but this price point is a lot of $$$ to drop on developing a skill that doesn't pay my bills. Not to completely threadjack but along what Jase said, Hot Shoes Diaries by Joe McNally is a great book
