Thanks Chris, its a mean machine! www.flickr.com/photos/31172343@N04/4145754819/sizes/o/ naugastyle, what do you mean about not using it with every film? I have read many users commenting about using it so I am interested in finding out more.

It's a Combiplan daylight tank, TDS. It's not as bad as I painted it, but it's bad enough that now I simply rock the tank back and forth for agitation. Less messy and just as effective.

"btw, you shouldn't pour used fix down the drain because it'll contain silver, which, if I'm not mistaken, kills the bacteria that's used in sewage/water treatment." Depends on the place. When I asked, they said the small amounts from amateur development isn't a problem. But if you are worried any photo lab should be happy to take your spent fixer - it contains silver so they get a bit of money for...

I have a Super System 4 and I get no leaks at all. As far as I know the spools are compatible, although most people seem to be sellnig the tanks with spools now.

BTZS tubes are so needlessly expensive. $150 bucks for 10 dollars worth of PVC pipe?

Perhaps we could affix a small digital screen to the camera back attached to an ipod or something? At the last party, "Let me see" looking at the camera back. "Oh I can't wait three weeks to see!!!". hehe.

You can also develop 4 sheets of 5x4 at a time in a paterson orbital colour print processor. The unit is quite compact and can be used in daylight. Roger Hicks uses one. www.rogerandfrances.com/photoschool/ps%20how%20orbital.html

Thanks guys, that jobo tank doesn't look too expensive and more or less what the doctor ordered. Which leaves me with finding a camera though :) The search commences :D

I have ran into this a couple of times as well. When i was testing my Yashica Lynx - new to me, but rather beat up - several kids at the grade school thought it was neat, but wanted to see the pictures right away. The inverse happened when i used my Maxxum 7xi and made quite the production walking around Fairly Honest Don's and taking notes and pictures. My current theory is that someone thougth i was scouting for a buyer (the property...

It's a waste to dump the fix after one use. You should be able to use it for 15-20 rolls or more before dumping it.

I have heard of a lot of people use their wife's / mom's / sister's hair dryers. But my wife's dryer and any other I have seen are far from clean. Hair, dust, lint, dirt, make-up bit, hair spray tack.
But whatever they're using, they're happy with their results.
I would think anything other than brand-new would be a bad idea. I would go further to encase then like a standrd ...

Yes, there are. You have several options to you:
• BTZS tubes
• Jobo's developing tank for this purpose. Contains up to five tubes inside the tank.
• Square developing tanks
• Adapt a Jobo developing tank for your purposes (must be at least 4" of space (three reel capacity). Requires folding the negatives like a rounded taco emulsion side in.
• A single developing tray ...

I think it's kind of funny how people will see a big camera and start assuming that you must be a great photographer to have such a big camera. They'll say. "Nice camera!" and their eyes will get big and they'll look at you like you didn't just take some crappy picture of a doggie.

I have a AP tank. It only leaks when I am using water and fixer. So in that fase I tend to do gentle inversions. If I don't do that I need to dodge the flying drops.

It does seem to get better after it sits for a while and after it has been trimmed.
I think I was just excited to get the fresh film on my scanner and hadn't given it enough time to finish.

Looks like light leaks to me.
Is that scan of a strip of film? if not is the band through the frame borders as well as each frame or just confined to the frame?
Cheers

Great post.
I have almost the same setup but for only $4 more I got myself a lead retriever which allows me to start putting roll into the spiral outside the changing bag; it's probably the simplest and cheapest of tools but it's so much useful.

They're not bacteria; that looks different. Mold would look a lot more spidery and treelike (though it's not impossible I guess). But the pattern resembles channels from wood- or bark-boring beetles or something like that. The large bubbles would be areas where these "tunnels" have joined together completely and separated the film. What would cause it I have no idea....

I'm not familiar with this developer either, but yes, there should be a minimum amount of developer needed to work, it's not just about the ratio. I'm surprised you managed to make it work on so little concentrate before.
