Tsjeu Dude, try dealing with ADHD and $1300 L lenses dropping like I do. But, I just put them back on the body, and if the picture is good, it's good. And so far, no problems except for minor blemishes.

Ha! Then we'll be answering 'which lens' and 'is this lens buy a scam?' postings... Good move on handing this one over to the cops. I wonder if they ever tried to sting him.

I sort of agree, but then Canon already reduced the MP in the G11, what's stopping them from doing it in a DSLR. Especially since more SLR users know the difference, compared to P&S owners.

Boxes make used gear easier to sell. Simple as that. They're also rather useful as packaging materials when you come to mail the stuff on to your buyer :D There are any number of reasons why people buy stuff and then sell it on. You could ask the same thing of houses, cars, clothes, electronics, CDs, games etc ad infinitum. Nobody else's bloody business what I do with my property....

It's nice to get the manual, the original caps, even the box. Even if the lens is used this makes it feel almost mint. It's a psychological thing. A pro will chuck the box out in the trash but a collector will save the international/spanish/french manual and warranty, everything!

"You don't know that - just pure speculation. " On a pixel level I think you'd need a major change in the laws of physics for a higher resolution sensor to be cleaner than a low res one (all other factors being equal). However, looking at the overall image things may be a lot closer than you'd think. "Scott, the point about high res is for crops." I don't agree. I think there are a lot...

Yeah, it is.....but not very much. If you use cheap glass, your image quality will be downgraded but with most decent lenses, you won't have a problem.
*This doesn't mean you NEED L glass either......just a decent lens.

Yes, calibrating is done considering the gamma... the purpose of calibrating is to avoid difference between screens and to be able to print exactly (or at least as nearly as possible) as it appears on the screen. It you change the gamma of your screen after calibrating it, you defeat the whole calibration thing...

The 7D is good in low light. There is no doubt. But you can't compare it to the latest Full Frame offerings, there is a big reason why it's not as good. But when compared to other crop cameras? It's very good. Certainly nothing to shake a stick at.

anscochrome: I should have mentioned that I plan to hold on to a crop body (probably the XTi) even if I get a 50D (or eventually a full frame) for the better portability/less worry factor. I really hope for a financial windfall but I'm afraid times have been getting leaner not better. The "go-ahead" on the camera equipment is that it's part of a once in a lifetime type present.

Having original boxes and packing materials, is an pretty standard in selling almost anything. Does it make whats inside any better? Not not really, but is just an accepted thing, and is esteemed more valuable with them.
My 2¢ worth.

I concur with the suggestion to go wide. I'm really happy with the 17- 40mm f4L I picked up last year before I went to Hawaii.
Next choice would be the 100mm f2.8 macro.

If you can actually check it in person and hand over the money for it there and then.
By all means do it. You have just got the bargain of the century.

Dance recitals. No flash, fast movement and very dark.
Max the ISO, largest aperture, and hope that your hardly hand holdable shutter speed is fast enough to stop movement.
In your situation you could use hdr.

You will be blown away if you use a real lab. I used to print at Walgreens, and I think they suck really bad now.
www.mpix.com is a great lab to use for the consumer. They have a professional arm called Millers lab which is also great. I can't recommend the use of these places enough, the quality is incredible. Don't be afraid to let them do "color adjustment" either....

Did you have a filter on the front of the lens? Often these reflections are caused by light reflecting off of the sensor back to the filter, then back down to the sensor again.

I use nothing but manual. Seriously, just use it and play around with it. It's digital, not like every shot costs you. You have room to explore, might as well take advantage of it.
