This place in Lauttasaari http://www.vaunuaitta.fi/etusivu/ is pretty good I bought a stroller from there. They can give you a good demo and sales pitch in there. Bought my twin stroller online from here though. http://www.olivers-baby-care.co.uk/ Once bought a pram from here too: http://www.lastentarvike.fi/ I don't have a travel system but I have bought Emmaljunga, Phil and Teds and Maclaren prams and strollers and been pretty happy...

Learning to swim in English

My youngest went to swimming school at abut that age (I think he was 6 yrs) and he coped fine even though he couldn't understand/speak Finnish (he went to Espoonlahti pool in Espoo). Just ask at your local pool. It's more than likely the instructor can speak English and would be willing to explain things to him. Most of the swimming courses for little kids have a start and end date that coincides with school terms, so you might need...

Are the vaccinations compulsory?

Thanks Penelope. Do you mean in Finnish day care? Because 3 years ago when we came here I had one child in daycare and they didn't ask or mention about the vaccinations , and this year is the third one with the other child and was the same, didn't ask or mention. And they were in both Finnish and then change in English daycare. Thanks again. Bella

Go to the Brio shop on ring 3, close to just past 3 highway. We went to the lastentarvike shop there, they quoted us 700€ for car seats in a discount sale. Went to the brio shop on the other side of the highway and they gave me the same car seats for 500€.

I want to buy a travel system for new born. I had no knowledge about it at all. I even do not know where to find it. Stockmann seems to have good reputation for many other things. But when I was there for baby accessories, it turns out to be quite limited collections. So I would really appreciate if anyone provide some of your experiences on selecting features, recommend reliable brand or some good site to search for it. thanks!

They're not compulsory. But what parent wouldn't want to protect their children from potentially life-threatening diseases?

Regarding the topic: there is quite brouhaha about pierced ears going on: http://www.iltalehti.fi/viihde/200911270102018_vi.shtml and it seems that most readers of IL don't approve little kiddos ear piercings: http://www.iltalehti.fi/viihde/20091126 ... 3_vi.shtml The children in question was 2,5 weeks old.

The job situation is not uncommon in Finland as you already know. I can understand that it can be difficult to make friends in small cities and towns if you do not speak Finnish but in Helsinki it is an entirely different situation. The weather should not be a big problem because there are an awful lot of pubs, restaurants and cafés in Helsinki. The orientation of the people ( Finns ) is not a problem if you choose to go to events which are attended by many ...

maybe they needed change. have you ever thought of that? i guess it is a little bit sad for you since you had 11 years of it. some think its either they stay married and miserable for the rest of thier life or get a divorce and become happier. i guess the reason why people divorce here is because its easier to get one. and by the way its cheap. only a bill of 80 euros and you split the bill so ...
