OCZ Vertex SSDs- Initial Results
Published (2009-12-20 19:46:00)
If you'd never gotten those vertexes, I'd have gone on, happy with my 7.6 PI, and my sweet boot times Now I'm probably gonna tinker with this for weeks. Ordered new cables, anyhow. Something for comparison, anyhow, corsair x32s in raid 0, the quick bench: Before re-enabling the write back cache, it was hitting the heady heights of a 380MB/s burst, and an average write of 154MB/s Why and when I'd turned that off (can't...

CPU Cooling Woes - Help
Published (2009-12-18 17:07:00)
Thanks again, I've found the problem. The CPU Fan died, along with the CHIP fan. So that's the fan on the motherboard right? I'm pretty sure that's what causing the sound issue. I cleaned the dust off, but the sound issue persists. I searched a bit and there doesn't seem to be a replacement fan for it. Oh well, I guess it's time to save up for an upgrade anyway.

storing media on HDD has the following advantages as compared to burning em on optical media
1. versatility : one can easily delete(even undelete)older movies when better rips (720p,1080p)are available.
2.easy maintenace: asides from a rare(in terms of today's tech) possibility of HDD crashes , these are better managed than Discs.
3.longer data retentivity : discs are subjected to ...

What controller are you running the array off?
The reason I'm asking is that while I hit the same PI in windows 7, I think my mobo-integrated raid controller might be slowing my drives down, somewhat.
I'd re-check with HD Tach, but it doesn't like my win 7 HP.

Are these the same parts that just went into the 800D you're talking about moving to the G5-case?
And people say there's something wrong with me for switching cases after five months
I've heard good things about the h50, btw. I guess there's too little water in it or something, so it's not supposed to do much for your idle temps compared to air cooling it with a good cooler, but ...

I like my corsairs, but it should be noted that the P-series is said to suffer from higher performance degradation than anything intel.
Last I checked, the intel ones were still the most popular ones overall.
Also look at this . The linked article in particular.
On the topic of SLC vs MLC, the general consensus atm seems to be that SLC is more promising.
Whatever you get, TRIM ...

You could always get an external drive caddy and just pop in drives as needed.
That's what I do and it works well.
Added advantage is that the drives are only active when actually being used and the caddies are cheap.
They're available with USB and eSATA connectivity...obviously, the eSATA link is preferable if possible.
