It is fiberglass, like the Bigfoot camper, but without the amenities. I've moved this to General Chat for discussion. Camco 35953 water heater bypass kit
Published (2009-11-20 09:56:00)
Bill, I live in sunny California, I do get frost where I live but the absolute lowest I've experienced in the Bay Area is upper 20's. So I'm not doing this for winterization, I'm doing it to travel with an empty tank (unless I'm using hot water of course), and to keep it empty when stored to avoid a stinky hot water tank.

Shelf under front window
Published (2009-11-20 21:09:00)
Joy, It isn't a privacy deal. It is an issue I have with curved side and curtain hanging down straight. It just bugs me, like the curtain is alive and is going to attack me or something. So, I use suction cups to keep the curtain on the window at the bottom. I don't know if I will have an issue with a shelf there or not. It is only November, we haven't even got to the dark days of winter yet and I am nuts. I want to go to...

QUOTE (Nancy @ Nov 21 2009, 12:09 AM) It is an issue I have with curved side and curtain hanging down straight. It just bugs me... So, I use suction cups to keep the curtain on the window at the bottom. Ooh, that's a good idea. I don't like the curtain gapping there because if I have curtains drawn, it's because I want privacy. Not someone walking up and looking in to the bed right through that gap. I was...

Shelf under front window
Published (2009-11-20 20:44:00)
Nancy, the new shelf sticks out twice as far as the old and really isn't in the way at all. I don't know what your curtain deal is but if you worry about people looking in, I'd bet with the wider shelf they can't see in. I overlap my curtain in the center and now will use the flowers or the Quail to keep it closed rather than all the junk I used to have on the little shelf. Gina, I sure am going to try to make Quartzite...

Camco 35953 water heater bypass kit
Published (2009-11-20 07:03:00)
Bill I was also wondering the same thing about the input valve. All Camco also makes a winterization kit part #35983. The difference is instead of two valves, the hot water output valve is replaced by a check valve. This eliminates one step in the winterization progress. Also when installing your W/H bypass kit you also can install a RV pump converter winterization kit. (Camco Part#36543) This kit allows you to pump anti freeze directly out...

Camco 35953 water heater bypass kit
Published (2009-11-20 05:38:00)
Then how will you winterize the hot water lines after turning off the valve ? Bill K I'll try installing this to the input line of the heater instead of the bypass kit.

The new fan uses a 6" diameter cutout, so I drilled and sawed out the necessary hole and put shims between the shells. The fan needs a 1 1/2" roof thickness for mounting, but the bottom garnish can be shaved another 1/4" with no problem. Since the gap between shells was a good inch this worked well. Single shell would need an interior or exterior shim of about 1" +....

As I believe most are, my 13' 1988 Scamp came stock with 13" wheels. The spare tire was mounted directly to the shell via two long bolts that are embedded into the fiberglass. When I upgraded my axle to accommodate brakes and 15" wheels, I was left with a few issues to resolve. The position of the original 13" spare tire carrier bolts do not fit the lug nut hole pattern of the new 15" ...

Just got back from my first NOG, which commenced at Stub Stewart State Park, Oregon. Had a great time meeting folks from this forum and showing off my work on my Scamp. I picked up this 1988 this past June. It was in relatively good shape, but I wanted to make it uniquely mine. Here are a few pics of the upgrades and changes I've made. Please feel free to comment or ask questions, if you ...

QUOTE (Robin G @ Nov 1 2009, 11:29 PM) Congrats! Enjoy! And please keep the pic's coming as you make progress on your projects. Don't work to hard! May I suggest one thing? If the foam from the cushions isn't dry and brittle I would save it and reuse. It's very expensive to replace. You can easily make or have made new covers, but if the foam is at all worth keeping, I would wash...

Clark, a number of people have removed the backrest (upper bunk portion) in other brands of trailers, with the intent to make the seat portion wider for sleeping. Big fluffy pillows are then often used in place of the backrest. Pillow are a great way to decorate too. Just another idea.

QUOTE (ThomasE @ Nov 18 2009, 12:45 PM) I'm about to order the Camco 35953 water heater bypass kit to install on my Atwood 6 gal. heater. Does anyone have this kit installed or any opinions about adding a bypass in general? I read on a Amazon customer review that the ball valves aren't full bore and restrict the water flow somewhat. I'm not too concerned about that though. I ...
