Wireless Passphrase
Published (2009-11-04 15:18:00)
No, there is no trick. I use that same passphrase with NetworkManager in Debian and Ubuntu. Something else is wrong. What is happening when you enter the passphrase? Is it asking for it again and again? Try deleting all existing connections in the NetworkManager panel applet and try again. If that didn't help, try connecting by wire long enough to yum update the system.

Thanks for taking the time to give all that information... I will definitely try the manual extraction process. Currently i'm at work, and my linux box is at home, but i'll give it a shot when i get there... also when i installed the broadcom driver, i didn't use any fwcutter... I ran the rpm from here , which is one of the links you gave me in an earlier thread "broadcom wireless problems", which like i said...

internet connection on fedora 11
Published (2009-11-04 10:05:00)
Huh - those are University of Akron IP addresses (perhaps you are nearby). Perhaps you should come to the ALUG meetimg on Thursday ! http://groups.google.com/group/Akron...alug-home-page You can probably only access those IPs from a campus internal network. If you are off campus you should either use dhcp or else find your ISPs nameserver ip addresses. Actually that second address DOES work from off campus, tho' it was down a few minutes...

Ok, it turns out it's a known (but apparently ignored) regression in all 2.6.30 and up kernels. Yet another victory for MS on Netbooks.
Sigh.

OpenLDAP is certainly a possibility. I have an article that introduces the concept of having the machines authenticate against an LDAP server.

There is no real equivalent for AD yet. Samba 4 is working towards it, but is still considered experimental at this point.

Biggest problem is that kernel bugs will not be addressed once the ndiswrapper+driver are loaded.
This is because of the difficulty in tracing problems, and being unable to know if the problem is
on the Linux side, or caused by the un-debuggable driver.

Hello tim.pirate,
First, those warnings are just telling you that the module loading business is changing and someday the old ways won't work.
Next, about the "FATAL: Module ndiswrapper not found." thing... I recommend that you try skipping that modprobe ndiswrapper step and reboot instead. But first do this...
Code:
ndiswrapper -mi
After you reboot, look in the NetworkManager ...

How so? Do you get an error message, or are we supposed to guess? (Also, passing the restart directive will probably cause an error if the service is not already running; try 'start' instead.)
You may want to try system-config-samba:
Code:

Hello dhoeschen,
I don't know the answers. Sorry. But I thought I would just mention what works with NetworkManager for me. For WPA, I use in NetworkManager the same ASCII passphrase that I use in Windows and that I entered in my router's setup utility. Behind the scenes, NetworkManager will use that ASCII passphrase and the SSID to generate a long hexadecimal pre-shared key. That long hex ...

I'm guessing you have to remove the 'BOOTPROTO' line from the eth0 and eth1 configurations.

This sounds like DNS is not correctly setup.
In the file /etc/resolv.conf you should see some lines like ....
nameserver 192.168.0.1
Perhaps you have no such lines or perhaps the ip addresses there no longer exist.
*IF* you are supposed to get your nameserver addesses from your dhcp service (a local router or your ISP or you company router), then either you failed to use dhcp or the ...

Hello
I would like to mount a bunch of folders/shares when I start my machine up.
I will be adding the mounts into my /etc/fstab folder BUT my WLAN0 only comes "up" and connects to my WAP AFTER logging in.
