New to Fedora
Published (2009-11-07 05:41:00)
Well welcome to Fedora Forum then haakuturi! Glad to see that you've joined us! I've been using Fedora since FC1 or 2, can't remember exactly. Loads of fun with this ever evolving OS. I love it. I also like Ubuntu. The new Ubuntu 9.10 is very nice. GRUB2 is certainly interesting. Learning about that as we speak. I'm sure you won't be a nuisance. The forum is all about questions and help on those questions. Just...

Why no preview in some AVI files?
Published (2009-11-08 15:29:00)
Hello all I now have another question! I have some AVI files on my LAN but can't figure out why some folders give me a thumbnail preview, and others, just icons? Please see the screenshot ... ... as an example. Both folders are on the same network share and I checked the AV properties of them both, they are all "XVID MPEG-4" so it's not that it's a different or missing codec. Would appreciate any help, not that...

To me, since I use NTLoader as my boot loader, it's not such as good idea either. In fact, it's so wrong to me that I keep forgetting it. It a new thing with Fedora 11. I have always used NTLoader and never had to change the active...

To answer my own question.... I don't know what I did but it's fixed. I've been checking for dns problems and such and I edited/cleaned up the /etc/hosts file. So somewhere along those lines it got fixed. Thanks anyway.

VMware workstation vs server
Published (2009-11-08 05:30:00)
Unless they've changed things, the server edition was tied to a Windows configuration management system. The workstation version worked on local systems, but VMs did not have the capability to migrate from server to server.

Troubles when writing an NTFS...
Published (2009-11-05 05:08:00)
Well - is it ? Does hal automount your ntfs ? Use the "mount" command with no options to see what is mounted. If you double-mount a file system and write anything (even time access updates) from both your FS will get very toasty.

Works fine here in F11, both in Firefox 3.5.2 and Opera 10b.
I have the latest version of flash installed from Adobe.
[david@2378-FVU ~]$ rpm -qa flash*
flash-plugin-10.0.32.18-release.i386
Tested with the following youtube video...

How do you know you have a virus? The program that identified the virus should be able to remove it.

This may not help you in the short run, but I always use FAT32 partition instead of NTFS to share files between Windows and Linux. There isn't anything in NTFS that is important to keep when moving files between Windows and Linux, such as owner, permission, etc. Long filenames are still kept intact.
If you need to share files too big or too many for FAT32 to handle, you may want to invest on...

But have you reinstalled Nautilus?
If not:
Try to log via console not via gnome (press Ctrl+Atl+F1 or F2 in log screen).
Then log as root, and type:
Code:
yum install nautilus

I have a delta 410 soundcard, running FC 11. I remove Pulse Audio but still have no sound. I haven't had sound working since Fedora 7. This really sucks.
Any suggestion is appreciated...

For KDE 4.x, kdesu no longer works out of the box. su has to be followed by a space and a hypen (su -) to open kde apps as root. This is the intended behavior by the KDE developers. It is possible to use kdesu if you create a symbolic link to it, but I am unsure of any possible consequences.
The following worked for Mandriva 2009.1. I believe it should work for Fedora.
ln -s /usr/lib/...
