Grinding sound when throttle is on
Published (2009-11-23 05:43:00)
Did the brake pads look ok? Try gently pushing the pads off the disc (with a thin screwdriver) then see how how it spins/makes any noises.. If that helps, pull the brake assembly and see if something is rubbing/not right/pads worn down.. If you haven't already, download the manual (from this site) it'll help in checking things over..... If you had the rear wheel off I suspect something didn't go back together correctly....

Split Rivet Link Cam Chain? -...

Sorry didnt read the first post, i had a kawasaki zx6 that had a center cam chain and there is absolutely no problem to put a split rivet cam chain. I know that from my own bike and other people that had similar bikes. I never knew someone with a center chain that splited cases to fit a new cam chain. I also knew people that join the rivets with a hammer but thats another story and absolutely not recommended, the worst thing is those people...

It's tough to 'eyeball' forks.... and it's not necessary. Instead of loosening ALL pinch bolts that hold the legs parallel, leave the lower tripple clamp bolts tight, and loosen everything else. Axle, fender, upper clamp. Once that's all loose, sit on the bike and grab a fistfull of front brake, and romp on the handle bars to compress the fork. Do this a half dozen times. Then tighten everything back up to torqued...

I had my brake light go out, and it just turned out to be the bulb. It was very easy to replace, and doesn't even require tools. Just take the seat off, and unscrew the bulb housing from the brake light cover. In my case, just one of the filaments in the bulb burned out. The sylvania 2 pack of 1157 bulbs from walmart was like 3 dollars. Cheapest/easiest place to start is the bulb.

Id check the part numbers on the respective microfiches, If the part numbers are the same, I dont see why not. The microfiches are available on the Yamaha website.

Tear down and replace the shaft would be my only option. That's not good at all! Check with the dealer too as there was a recall for some model years for the sprocket retaining lock washer. You *might* be able to yell loud enough to get it civered under that bulletin and all done for free.
Either way, the bike is toast until it is fixed.... too dangerous to ride.

This might help. Stay with the original height otherwise you will alter the riding geometry, unless that's what you're going for.

With the bike turned off, rotate the rear wheel paying attention to where the grinding noise is coming from.... Are your brake pads in good shape (and not metal to metal?).
Does it make the noise when STOPPED(in neutral), when the engine is running?
Did you do any service work to the bike prior to the noise(new tires, brake pads, oil change etc?)

No, But.
I got a set of woodcraft engine sliders for the 03-05 r6 but it seems that that there is a different stator coil on the r6.
Il ring around in a minute to see what i can find.

I don't think you need to dilute the motorsports one. It's safe for aluminum.

Sorry to hear of your accident.
Is this due to not having comprehensive insurance to cover this? Or is your deductible so high, it doesn't help? If this was caused by a road hazard, it should not raise your rates........
How did you make out? Seems a helmet, jacket, gloves, possibly boots would be further expenses that could go into the total bill......

I found "split rivet link cam chain" on a British web site with no pic's... Is it a regular chain with a clip on the outside, like a replacement drive chain?
If I had to replace my cam chain, the only additional thing (besides the valve cover) you have to do to put an original chain back on is R&R the rt, ft cover. You can check the guides, etc while there...

A lot of people on here do it the same way I have so that's probably a good start.
Imagine you are sat on the bike looking down at the battery (so the positive is on the right hand side, negative on the left). The positive lead comes from the terminal, round the back of the battery in the channel between it and the airbox, to come out on the left hand corner. Negative lead comes from the ...
