Resonator tips?
Published (2009-11-12 18:52:00)
Resonator tips make it quieter as the name implies they have a resonator inside to absorb the sound. You want Echo Chambers, or large diameter tips that are long in length like my 3.5"x24" tips, they give it a really deep rumble. I wouldn't go without them on any V8.

no . the only pop i get is from a exhaust leak. because when you let off the gas the air is forcing in and out so it makes a gargeling sound.

When i did my first exhaust, i went on youtube and watched videos of trucks with different exhaust systems on. i got to hear a few different set-ups which helped me make my final decision. Also, most exhaust makers have sound files on their websites....I know flowmaster does

Subscribed. I kinda have the same thing going on but instead i have a DI/DO thrush welded muffler. So i assume you have stock headers/intake and cats? Usually from what i hear if you change up to LT Headers with an Cold Air Intake it should increase the sound. Is it not loud in the cab or just in general? I can kinda hear mine in the cab but i want it to be more louder inside and out and...

Yeah, it will sound better and give you some mild gains but if you are planning on splicing in a muffler to the factory tubing I would opt to have whatever brand of muffler you choose to be made out of stainless steel if you plan on keeping it for a while. I think some Flowmaster mufflers are offered in SS. Personally I'm not a fan of the flowmaster sound mated to our trucks but it's still ...

If you have a c-clamp then put it on the pipes then measure the diameter, but i'm pretty sure it's 3" that's what rebelbowtie always says.

what year of truck do you have? If you have o2's before and after the cat, then yes he is mostly right. If you want to continue to run no, or gutted cats, then you need a tune to get rid of the after o2's.

A crossover pipe is a very good idea. I personally like the H-pipe because you really dont lose sound. I just made a custom Hpipe by taking my 2 24" glasspacks and cutting a hole in both and welding in a pipe. Ive heard that X-pipes you lose a little sound. Im not a fan of that but any crossover is better than none.

If you want loud and cheap, get rid of your cats and muffler and run straight pipes. It will be loud, but it will sound like crap, in my opinion.

It would be the cheapest easiest and best to take it to a professional so there aren't any mistakes made. You'll prob'ly get pissed at that response but it's the truth. Welding especially stainless isn't something you can just pick up and "do". If you think you can and try it'll wind up at a welder's shop anyway to fix your mistakes (and charge double what it would have cost to begin with to ...
