I know Poorboys is awfully popular on this site and I's sure one can't go wrong with that stuff but that stuff isn't nearly as highly recommended on a lot of the professional detailing websites and how-to's. So far I have been using Chemical guys pro-polish and their wet-mirror finish glaze that came with my kit. However, I think when it comes time to replace my compounds I will either be going with Meguires 205 and 105 or...

I've never seen it on any color but white. Never on any of my black, charcoal, green or blue vehicles.

Wax on plastic
Published (2009-11-08 12:52:00)
I use a product called GR-40. It is specifically made to remove wax residue from plastic trim. You can find it at pakshak.com, home to the best microfiber towels on the market. There is another product called Wax Blaster which remove wax residue. Classic Motoring Accessories (properautocare.com) sells it for about $6.00. Sometimes an all purpose cleaner will work. Try it with a microfiber towel and scrub with an old toothbrush. Might take a...

I started with 600 then 800 and then alot of work with 1500. Mine were really bad and someone tried to use that instant fix sealer. TAKES FOREVER TO SAND OFF. After I finished sanding just rubbing compound and elbow grease for a shine.

I used the kit on my mom's old ford windstar, it was a night and day difference. they looked brand new.

The last time I did mine it took me right at 10 hours for the outside. The day before that I did the interior in 2.5-3 hours.

Eeesh. Didn't realize how old the thread was. I just washed the truck, did the wheels and tires, and detailed and vacuumed the interior on Sunday. It took me about 5 hours total. No way I could clay and wax too in less than 8 or 9. Machine polish and its probably more like 12+

I've got to say. I just tried WD-40 on the plastic in my engine compartment and I am very impressed with the outcome. I have a 2006 tahoe and it made it look great. Hope it doesn't hurt the plastic hoses.

I usually use Mothers Back to Black. For me, it works good for weeks. Somethimes I use WD40. Never had a problem, and neither really attracts dust anymore than bare plastic. And when I am too lazy, I use Meguiars Endurance on the air dam on my GMC. FYI - WD40 or a good tire shine (such as Meguiars Endurance) are the absolute best for textured semi flat powdercoat.

There are no hand waxing, polishing methods that will premanently remove swirl marks. You're going to need, depending on how deep they are, either an agressive polish or a cutting compound used with a decent buffer. To ensure a perfectly glass-like surface I would start with a mild cutting compound on the hood and door. Then follow that with a polish. Lastly, either seal or wax those areas ...
