I'd go with a 305/40-22. You may be able to fit a 305/45-22 also. That's what I'm running on my Expy.

It does seem kind of dumb to not have the 951s to fit the older trucks. BUT.... Knowing those rims are unavailable for your truck, I would for safety sake, ignore the advice about adapters, and just pick a different wheel... FWIW, the Moto Metal 951s are so overdone on the 2004 and up trucks that they almost appear to be as common as stockers. Not really something I want on my truck, but that's just me...

Im stuck between the 2.... Not going to be doing any mudding or serious offroading, so road noise/ride/pavement wear is top priority... What do you guys think? Register today or sign-in to remove these ads!

XD Addict Machined or Black? Help!?
Published (2009-11-25 22:30:00)
if your going with anything above 17" go with the machined. The black ones look like wagon wheels in person in 18" or higher sizes.

275/70/18 look too thin
Published (2009-11-23 11:23:00)
Looks to me its about an additional $65.00 a tire going from 275/70/18 to a 285/65/18. The 275/70 are going to be the same width of the tires you have now and are only about an inch taller. I think the 285/65 would look a little better, but if you are pinching your pennies you may be better off saving your $260.00 and going with the 275/70/18. Reguardless I think either of the two sizes would be better than what you have now, and I would go...

Machined lip is basically finished metal, not chromed or anything like that. I cant contest for the salt effect but with any aftermarket wheels its going to be an issue. Keep them clean and take the deal on tire rack. Just be sure to post pics!

If you need tires in a pinch its a great deal. I have them on my truck and I love them. 55,000 miles and counting I think I can squeeze another 15 to 20,000 out of them.

No doubt 33,s will fit and maybe 35,s....just depending on what wheel you go with. You have a broad range for combos

Make sure you gress the caliper bolts that attach to the spindle, use the anti nosie gress on the back of the pads, use a brake parts cleaner on the dust shield and the surface of the rotor and dont touch the rotor after puting it back on, Oh yeah Ive found it helps to take your ress cap off so when you compress the piston your brake fluid doesn't over flow and build psi. I like to take one of the...

The 285/65/18 BFG All Terrain would be great, not much bigger/wider than stock, load D & E available, great grip & performance, no real economy loss.

Just wait to put the tires and wheels on and it will put it up another couple inches. You wheel wells will fill out and you will probably have the right look your going for.

Not sure about the tires, but on the wheel subject... I'm pretty sure the 951's aren't being made in a 5x135 bolt pattern. There were my first choice too, but i couldn't seem to find em.

Either one would look really nice, but I would go with black ones personally and painting those head lights would really tie in the black wheel.

Here's my thread New Brakes(anti-warp) .
I'm hard on my brakes as well and with me having 35's the brakes handle better than stock but the ceramic pads I got still produce brake dust which I will replace sometime but will continue to clean more than usual til that time comes. I've got about 3500 miles on my brakes and they are still performing strong.

I assume you have a 4x2 since you mentioned it's a 99. I also assume you are talking about lift spindles. I'd suggest running a 285/70-17 (33x11.50), 295/70-17 (34x12.00) or a 305/65-17 (33x12.50).
