If you have some time this week or next weekend you may be interested in heading out to Boyce Thompson Arboretum. They are in peak for fall colors and the park is a pretty nice little day trip. Since it is out in Superior there are also places to wheel or ride if you want to do that too. They also have photography work shops going over the next few months. I played with a few Pano shots this weekend, in the scenic Calico mountains near Barstow CA. I sort of like the uncropped Panoramic compared to the clean, smooth, somewhat boringly cropped versions. What do you think? (full width - 9,000 pixel wide images here , click on "O" for Original size) Pano 1 - cropped Pano 1 - uncropped (white border) Pano 4 - cropped Pano 4 - uncropped (black border)

Aaron, you used an ND on that last shot? For what? The only thing you would've accomplished by doing that would be to gain more cloud blur, of which there doesn't seem to be any. There is no other practical use for one in that scene. My bit regarding coasters were in relation to sunset filters, which should've been clear, as that's what you mentioned. I'm not sure why the confusion. Unless you want to add a circus to...

GoPro at the Baja 1000
Published (2009-11-23 15:20:00)
I photographed a motorcycle racer during the Baja 1000 with a GoPro attached to his helmet. Considering what these racers endure speaks volumes of the quality and durability of the GoPro. Photos attached:

Here are a few from our 2004 trip to Moab and Ouray, right after buying the Jeep.
I think these pictures touch a subliminal part of the brain, they just give me a different feeling inside than say a Majestic veiw. I can look at them and see a story... or an escape....(from shoveling snow everyday and listening to the furnace run constantly).
A great thread for this time of the year...

Congrats on the camera.
For general accessories:
UV Filters are good to put on your lens. There effectiveness is often argued but I use them as a buffer for the actual lens. It is cheaper to replace a filer due to scratches or dents than a lens.
Actual filters depend on what you are shooting and what you prefer. There are a screw in filters and there are square/rectangular filters....

Basics, basics, basics.
Basics of photography is all about one thing. LIGHT.
Most people have to make a choice to capture enough light to provide a proper exposure. Either a "fast" lens, or a long exposure.
The rest of them have both and have spent $$$$ on equipment.
For the shots you are dealing with, you can easily afford a long exposure as there is going to me no movement in ...

Very cool score! How large/heavy is the thing?
I dont know about color, but black and white darkroom gear is still readily available.
Im still shooting and processing large format 4x5. Although, I have dumped the paper processing, in favor of a large format flatbed scanner.

I love the fact that you were excited to see the Black Widow. I made a model of that thing as a kid and it is a super cool plane for sure. Interesting to hear the concessions made for the Enola Gay. I was just reading about that airplane the other day. Sad really that people have to make a political statement about a plane.

First, Google this new camera, as there are a few other more detailed and better reviews out there than mine
I started looking into helmet cams shortly after I got back into mountain biking this summer after taking more than a decade off from it.
Lot of cams on the market, and the little GoPro Hero Wide caught my eye.
But soon I saw in the Internet that they were coming out with a ...
