Quote: I ran an independent shop. So before you were 30, you had your own shop. What, did Daddy buy it for you? How did that work out? What with all the trucks, Porsche, fancy guns, etc, I figured you were a lawyer or doctor. Now it's all more clear.

The seller did mention that the prior owner wanted a "defender look" on the IIa so that migth explain the cappings. I can say from seeing it in person that the paint shop did not paint under the bonnet or the engine bay. The dash and footwells, floor, seat box were painted but they did leave the galv trim alone on the inside of the windscreens. The out side of the top was painted a nice cream/white but not the inside of the...

Your posts containing your expert opinion (based on years of experience) have included very little meaningful content. If you disagree, explain why in a logical manner and maybe include some numbers to back up your statements. Prove me wrong, don't just resort to juvenile sniping. It gets old. In my case, I really, really wanted a Disco. Even with parts availability up here (low) and shipping costs (high), I still was determined to get...

A DIY conversion will nearly always cost more and take longer than you think if you're buying the components piecemeal. I learned this on a Perkins 4.203 to SIIa conversion. Which is pretty simple compared to converting a Disco. Definitely the way to go to buy a Disco from a breakers and have it shipped to Savannah or Charleston. When I got the 300tdi for my Defender, I lucked out as the guy was actually converting his '95 D90 to a...

If he is advertising a 1996 then it has the 4.0 engine, not the 3.9. If he doesn't know that, then I would be wary of the seller. Ask for all maintenance records. Nothing wrong with the 1996-1997 years. Some people believe they were the worst years, have the most breakdowns, etc. Not true, just a myth.

You must get ahold of Rovermack here on the portal. He has a nicely built P38 with coil conversion and loads of other stuff. He will be a great asset.

You just get someone to pull everything from a wrecked Disco in the UK, or bring a complete vehicle over. Common, easy conversion. You need the TDI gearbox as well. The V8 gearboxes are different.

There are some nice MkIII's for around 20.

Probably your drain tubes are clogged up. A bunch of people have tried different ways to clean them out just search dweb whenever it comes back for some ideas. Make sure to lube up the sunroof rails when while up there also.

Rob - great looking truck, good decision going with an '04 over the '03. Maybe someday you can make it down to California and we can take you on some of the Sierra Nevada trails.

No, it's not normal for me. Never seen it before.
Any chance you stuffed it into a snow bank or somehow else plugged the cooling package with snow?
How cold was it outside?
The D2 only has an air/oil cooler, no intank radiator system. Ford had a problem with this in really cold temps on some of their trucks like the 2002+ Explorer. Below about -20F, the oil in the ...
