Jeep Trailer Build - Page 3 -...

I wired up my jeep today, will try and wire the trailer tomorrow. I also ordered the springs and the spring mounting kit today. I'll mount that up tomorrow as well. The wheels I have are not going to work and I don't want to buy spacers, at least not unless I absolutely have to. So if all goes well I'll have the trailer wired up tomorrow and the spring mounted too. Then all I'll need to do is mount the axle, get it...

Don That's a great point. It's one thing if you can put together a hand rail or some other light duty metal on metal job. It's quite a different thing to trust the welds holding 2000 lb load stresses at 60 mph. What truck do you have? Drop me an email with your contact info and I will reciprocate. promo1@blanca.com RJ ...

I got the deal of a lifetime in my opinion last week, a fellow expo member was kind enough to post up a trailer he found in my neighborhood for sale. It's a 1997 Cut's Manufacturing Bundu Safari Trailer.
It's a little rusty, all surface, nothing a quick dip or sandblasting wouldn't cure. The trailer came with all of it's paperwork, owner's manual and ...

I ran an off-road trailer for several years. My answer is that they are both a asset and a liability, depending on your use.
The main positives...
They allow you to carry more fuel, spare tires, fridge, water and gear
They provide a nice 'base camp' situation
They are a great platform for an RTT and mobile kitchen
The main negatives:
They are hard on gear, due to vibration, ...

So your thinking of putting the dog in the trailer? I would think it'd be the other way around. Dog in the truck on top of the platform, the camping gear in the trailer? That's they way I do it anyway. I could fit most of my stuff in my truck if I didn't have the dog taking up a 3'x3' chunk of the rear of the truck.

Anthony,
Your project shows that with some ingenuity and elbow grease, you don't have to spend a bundle to have a nice little camping trailer. It sure looks like the tongue is well built (maybe that's an understatement). You can use it as water / gas / "stuff" storage, but I'd watch that your tongue weight doesn't get too heavy. Keep posting progress photos.

Ok so I should be thinking...
extra fuel containers.
power either via generator or battery with solar charging.
Roof tent
Complete kitchen Ice chests or fridge?
and for the fifth item I am thinking a compressor or lighting.
Am I thinking backwards here?

Great build. I really like how well it was thought out.
Curious, what's the weight ready to roll but not loaded?

Here is the approach I took. It starts here at this post in my thread:

I basically started with Jeep bushings (first mistake) that allow my arms to flex under load - even if they are poly bushings. These will be elimintated shortly. You can see I used laser aligners to get the position and length right on my arms. This worked ...

My ZJ has a healthy V8 in it, so on the roads I had no problem at all. On the trails, I found myself using 4-Lo a little more than normal though. Mostly for the compression braking with the added weight, but I really didn't notice a considerable difference in power.

For me, when I get to building my trailer, I'm going with the same size that's on my Jeep, 33"x 1250 x 15's. Most people (me included) as near as I can tell, size their trailer tire to match their rig, I would guess cause the spare goes both ways. ThatÂ’s just my opinion.

Hi guys,
From a couple other posts I received some questions about "baby blue" my wife and I's 1973 Travel Trailer and decided to start this thread.
We bought it last fall as a mental commitment to ourselves to go Burning Man 2009 the following year (which we did, probably for the last time, it was great but it has changed a lot as we have maybe possibly as well), and we also took it on a ...
