I'm going to make a lesson, with listen / speak / read / write, all electronic, probably PowerPoint with lots of embedded shit. Goes like this: 1. Listen - Looks like I'm going to have to read the thing, gonna scan the book and use that. 2. Speak - Questions to demonstrate understanding. 3. Read - It's a book. 4. Write - Answer questions about the story (low level) Then they can watch the kickass classic film with Boris Karloff....

Published (2009-11-28 02:03:00)
One last round. Usually around exam time, students get very ingratiating, obsequious even. They stop by my office with gifts, pay compliments, make declarations of love, etc. Probably doesn't help at all, but it's a better strategy than the couple of nitwits who just sent me text messages : "Please check my dialogue" and "I send email of you. Check Plz" at 12:40 am. I offered to help them out by...

The great Seoul EPIK workshop next week Is anyone going on this? A bunch of waegooks from my district are, but thankfully I've got out of it. From what I gather it will be five days of lectures and four nights being put up in a hotel (with roommates?). I wonder what the hell they're going to do to fill up all the time. I can only imagine how repetitive and unoriginal the list of ...

Who Was More Successful? Today, I was walking home from the market. I ran into two students. Both girls. They came out of the same class, originally. They left from the same class, at two different times. Both were reasonably advanced level. Same elementary school, same class. Same relative appearance. Same level of popularity. Friends with each other. Two students, both ...

Are you good at spotting liars? I think I suck balls. Or maybe I just don't want to believe my students are lying when they are. This particular student was displaying a lot of ...
