Mmm, I take that back, FF: Spirits Within had CGI lead actors, and I love that movie too. Aki Ross is hawt. Why did everything glow? Umm, because they could. Actually I'm kinda mad at Cameron for that, I am writing a book with a similar concept to his movie, that of using sea life as an inspiration for an above-ground alien forest. But, luckily, my idea is far more expansive that his. He kinda lacked imagination in that sense. So, the...

Part of the lower opening total is tied to the horrible weather across much of the East Coast. I wouldn't call that spin, because even retailers saw a drop in sales as a result of people being unable to get out, or unwilling to bother in the snow. I think it will make back it's money, and perhaps even turn a bit of a profit, but I also think it's another example of Hollywood PREACHING and people lapping up what they would hate...

My local cinema is doing Avatar only in 3D, at...

If I didn't know that was supposed to be Robin Hood beforehand I would have assumed it was some random medieval movie. I guess it could be good.

The plot is a hodgepodge of concepts that have been individually iterated on by numerous other movies, and probably to better effect.
The only really close to new trope I see here is making humans the alien invaders. That's sorta it. But that's too close to the theme of environmental destruction to be truly new.
The huge plot hole, of course, is the Matrix issue: just pull the damn plug on ...

I refuse to be genuinely excited for a video game movie until I hear that it is ACTUALLY good.
However this movie has a chance. Mike Newell has at least directed a movie I have liked before (Goblet of Fire). It also seems to have some good backing. But, as with any video game movie based on a game I like, it's a wait and see with little hope.
