Dish or dome?
Published (2009-12-18 20:08:00)
QUOTE (RVTEN @ Dec 18 2009, 01:27 PM) The biggest down fall with a dome to us is. Rain fade, due in the early morning (til the sun comes out). We have a KD in motion. Came with the MH already installed. Works well with our DireTv. Use our DVR with it no problem. On our last MH. We had the Winegard Auto-Matic dish. (single LNB) There the problem was wind blowing the dish at times. Signal would opo in and out. The good news is...

Dish Network Problem

QUOTE (bigmike @ Dec 17 2009, 08:09 PM) There must be some thing wrong with your receiver. We have had Dish for years, and currently have the travler set up that you talk about. I don't know how long the receiver would need be off to need the re-set normally, but I know we have had ours off for a couple of weeks at a time and never had to do anything but turn it back on-it would go thru the paces of "connecting...

QUOTE (Bill & Janet Adams @ Dec 11 2009, 04:46 PM) if you leave the MotoSAT controller turned on while the antenna is up and pointed you should not be seeing the dish move unless you experience much more wind than what I would describe as moderate. Maybe if you are seeing 40+MPH, but it should not be moving off signal in 20-30MPH winds. No, I'm not talking about 40 mph winds...it takes much less wind than that to...

Portable vs Automated Direct TV HD
Published (2009-12-13 13:12:00)
Bob, Bill knows all about this. The direct link to the thread on Datastorm Users is here. I know it can be done if you are assigned to 117 or 83. The closer you get to 101 the less possible it becomes. I started with an existing "B" model BOW and made my own mounting mechanism. Knowing what I know now I think it would be relatively easy to make a mount from scratch using stock available from any home center. It's not...

Nick, Another thought. Your Winnebabago probably has the basement air. If that is the case, the dish will very likely be lower in the travel position then a dome would be.

2 LNB's VS. 3 LNB's
Published (2009-12-12 10:40:00)
I definitely do not want to run 2 cables to the RV, and HD is not super important. But money wise maybe it would be better to just get another Dish 1000 ?? I believe it has the 3 LNB's 7 (switches) needed to watch one program and record another at the same time ??

If I was not concerned with HD then I would seriously consider the small portable "domes" that are now available. Some with two outputs so you could do what you want. Mounted normally on the back of the ladder they could be easily moved if in woods. Something else to consider. They are not cheap enough I am considering one instead of my portable sat dish that I carry for trees. I don't mind SD from time-to -time....I...

Dish or dome?
Published (2009-12-12 20:08:00)
QUOTE (Bill & Janet Adams @ Dec 12 2009, 08:43 PM) while the MotoSAT has required multiple software updates (about a dozen) to keep it working DEFINITELY NOT TRUE about my MotoSat MD500 w/Nomad 2 controller. The Nomad 2 required a software update only once since I bought it in Apr 2006 (and that update wasn't any big deal). That was when Dish changed the settings of all their transponders in 2008. I have heard of...

I too am trying to decide between a new dome or the Travler automatic dish. I'm a Directv subscriber. One of the big factors I've been told about a dome is that you CAN NOT record on a DVR on one channel and watch another. We are also looking to decide soon and hopefully get set-up while in Quartszite in January or February. I'll be watching your post, Nick, with interest. Good Luck!...

Call Dish and tell them your problem, tell them it keeps happening and you want something done during this phone call. Tell them you want a replacement box and a service credit if it keeps happening, they don't like to hear that and it may get you a better response. If you want a bit more ammunition for the problem and less confusion when you talk to them don't mention moving (or ...

I set mine up by hand for the last couple years. It is easy as long as you get the mast very vertical. Just set the skew and elevation from the setup page, then slowly sweep the sky. It works just like the round dish you are familiar with. If you are interested, I recently purchased a SL3 LNB and made my own attachment for my Hughesnet Dish. I now get both internet and HD from the same...

QUOTE (dynamike @ Dec 12 2009, 08:10 AM) I have not been able to record a program on the DVR and watch something else at the same time. But at home I have been able to do this, with the same receiver (Dish VIP 612) after some investigating, a satellite installer person told me that it was because of LNB's. I have a Dish 1000 at home and a Dish 500 in the RV. He said the Dish 500 is ...

I have a 5th wheel with a Winegard satellite with digital elevation senor (Model RM-DM46) that I've never used. I also have Direct TV in the house. I was wondering if I could use this on two Tvs.as it is now going to a tv connection in the kitchen installed by previous owner. And if not can I just change the LNBF. Getting a tripod from a non-rv dealer is unlikely. You could provide a mount for the antenna and the dealer would be happy to set up on it, with the pre-installed coax that should present no problem. There should be some good suggestions for mounting here in the forums, either a tripod, ladder or pin-box mount.

If you do not care about the Network stations - Fox, NBC, CBS, ABC - then there is no reason to get DNS. It has nothing to do with HD.... Just remember, unless you are in your previous local area you will get NO networks. But all the "cable" stuff will be there.
